Cockroach Janata Party is scheduled to protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park from 4 pm today for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
CJP convenor Abhijeet Deepke had said in a press conference in Delhi on September 24 that Gyanesh Kumar is the biggest traitor of this country. The right to vote is being taken away from the people. However, the police has not given permission for this demonstration.
The whole controversy started after the report of The Indian Express on September 23. It was claimed that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi lodged written objections 14 times in 10 months. He said that some decisions were taken without his knowledge.
During SIR so far, 13.37 crore names have been reduced from the draft voter list of 30 states/union territories. According to the Election Commission, there are more than 96.88 crore voters in the country, that is, about 14.1% of the voters’ names were deleted from the SIR.

CJP will protest again at Jantar Mantar
While talking to the media in Mumbai on Thursday, Deepke said that if Gyanesh Kumar does not resign, there will be an agitation at Jantar Mantar in Delhi from the end of October.
He also said that CJP will not join the protest by opposition MPs against the Election Commission on October 6.
Deepke questioned that if Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis can hold a political rally in Shivaji Park, then why CJP cannot hold a protest there.
Meanwhile, CJP co-convenor Saurabh Das said that we will start our protest from Mumbai, then go to various places and finally reach Jantar Mantar.

CJP posted about the protest in Mumbai.
Both the commissioners raised 4 big questions…
1. Changes in Form-6: Both of them raised questions on asking new voters for information about their own or family names in the previous SIR list. Sandhu called it illegal and demanded its removal.
2. Control of voter data: Both of them questioned why the control of voter database is increasing in Delhi and why the reach of the states is being limited.
3. 16 lakh appeals in Bengal: Sandhu asked who filed about 16 lakh appeals regarding the removed names and with whose permission.
4. 97 voters of Goa: 97 voters found eligible in the investigation could not be added to the final list due to software problem.
Election Commission removed 2003 question from Form 6
Election Commission has made major changes in Form-6 in the states where SIR has been completed. Now after deletion of name in SIR, information of 2003 voter list will not have to be given to get name added again. The applicant will not need to tell whether his, his parents’ or grandparents’ names were in that list or not. The additional declaration related to this has been removed from Form-6.

However, this does not mean that the name will be added without checking. The verification of eligibility to become a voter will be done as before. The normal process of Form-6 will also continue. This change is currently applicable only in those states where SIR has been completed.
Dharmendra Pradhan resigned after CJP’s protest.
CJP had demonstrated at Jantar Mantar in Delhi from 19 June to 25 July demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan (former Education Minister). Pradhan resigned after 36 days of protest.
After the NEET paper leak controversy, CJP had made Pradhan’s resignation an issue. Activist Sonam Wangchuk was also on hunger strike during this demonstration.
