Zinc Phosphide is mainly used to kill rats. It is a dark brown or black colored chemical, which is counted among the most dangerous rodenticides in the world. Zinc phosphide is commonly used in agriculture and to kill rats, but due to its easy availability and high toxicity, security agencies take its illegal storage or suspicious purchases on a large scale very seriously. Zinc phosphide forms poisonous gas as soon as it reaches the body. After reaching the stomach, it comes in contact with the acid and moisture present there and forms phosphine gas. This gas prevents the body cells from using oxygen, due to which many organs start failing rapidly. For example, even a small quantity can be fatal. According to medical research, even a very small quantity of zinc phosphide can become poisonous in the body. Its lethality depends on the person’s age, weight and the amount reached in the body. There is no specific antidote for zinc phosphide. Efforts are made to save the patient by giving only supportive treatment. Rules related to purchase and sale of zinc phosphide: Zinc phosphide has been classified as pesticide in India. The Insecticides Act, 1968 and related rules apply to its sale and use. If the poisonous substance is used in a conspiracy to cause harm to any person or crowd, serious sections like attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and endangering public safety can be charged under the Indian Justice Code (BNS). ————————————— Also read this news… Fighting in the Muharram procession, youths were seen hitting people with sticks and plastic pipes, a stampede situation occurred.
