Now the music label of the song, Trooper Records, has issued a statement saying that it had given official license to Excel Entertainment to use ‘Shoorveer’ in the film. “Trooper Records is pleased to share that ‘Shoorveer’ was officially licensed to Excel Entertainment for use in ‘Mirzapur: The Film.’ Congratulations to Excel Entertainment and the entire Mirzapur team on the release,” Trooper Records wrote in a statement. The label also shared the credits of the song in the same statement. In this, Rappariya Balam has been described as the singer and composer of ‘Shoorveer’. After this statement from Trooper Records, the controversy seems to be calming down for the time being. However, it is not clear what was the agreement between the song’s artist Raparia Balam and the label regarding permissions and rights. What was the controversy over the song? Mirzapur: The Film released on 4 September. The song Shoorveer was shown in the film. After this, Rajasthani singer Rappariya Balam released a video on social media claiming that this song was his, which was used without permission. According to the rapper, the song was used in the fight and gunfight scenes in the film, which tarnished the image of his state. Whereas he composed this song on Maharana Pratap. In the video, he said, “Some of you may ask why I am heartbroken. You may say I should be happy, because my song is in Mirzapur. But the team of Mirzapur did not take my permission to use my song. Who gave them permission? I did not give it.” He further added, “This song is dedicated to Maharana Pratap ji. We are using this song to glorify the villain of the film. Is it right? If the team of Mirzapur had come to me and said ‘Rapriya Bhai, we want to use your song’, we would have given them 10 ideas. But taking a song without permission is not right.” The rapper had also raised questions on the copyright and licensing process of ‘Shoorveer’. He said, “I don’t know who gave you these rights or from whom you took them. Whoever gave you the rights, ask him if he has any copyright?” The film earned Rs 93 crore in 3 days. The film Mirzapur was released in theaters on 4th September. The film collected Rs 25.74 crore on the opening day and became the fourth biggest opening film of the year.
