A case of rape of a 37 year old woman has come to light in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. According to the allegation, a female cabin crew member of a private airline who was going on duty was raped by the driver of her official cab on the way. The woman was going to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). Police have arrested the 23 year old accused driver. The driver changed the route while going from Shamshabad to the airport. According to the police, the incident took place on July 20. The woman had boarded the official cab provided by the airline from Shamshabad to the airport at around 2.40 pm. The cab was supposed to go to the airport on the fixed route, but the driver changed the route and took it to a deserted place near a construction site near the airport. Shamshabad ACP V. Shrikant Gaur said that the accused driver initially told the woman that he was going out for the toilet. The driver returned only two-three minutes after getting out of the car. He entered through the back door of the car and raped the woman. The victim pushed the accused, screamed for help. Investigating officials said the victim resisted the attack and tried to save herself. After some time, she gathered courage and succeeded in pushing the accused. He immediately opened the car door and came out shouting for help from a laborer working nearby. Seeing the victim screaming, the accused driver got scared and immediately fled from the spot with a cab. FIR lodged at airport police post, accused in custody. Immediately after the incident, the victim reached Rajiv Gandhi International Airport police outpost and lodged a complaint. Based on the woman’s statement, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) (such as sections of rape and assault) and started investigation. Accused Errapogu Prashant arrested, sent to jail. The special team of police tracked down the accused and arrested him the very next day, i.e. on 21st July. The accused has been identified as Errapogu Prashanth Kumar, a resident of Rangareddy district of Telangana. The accused has confessed to his crime during interrogation. The local court has sent the accused to judicial custody. The cab service was being provided by a local travel agency, notice issued to the airline. Investigation has revealed that the concerned cab service was being operated by a local transport agency. The airline had given him the contract to transport its employees to and from the airport.
