Gaming Act: Companies challenged in three High Courts, Government reached Supreme Court
The central government has appealed to transfer three petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the online gaming act 2025 to the Supreme Court. These petitions are currently pending in the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Delhi. The transfer petition presented by the Center in CJI Gawai’s bench on September 4 will be heard on 8 September.
The government argues that to avoid contradictory decisions in this case, hearing of all petitions must be held simultaneously in the Supreme Court or any one High Court. The Bill, which was completely banned on real-mani games, was approved by Parliament on 22 August. After this, many companies closed their money games. Many big companies have decided not to challenge the law.
POP in Ganesh idols, Supreme Court seeks reply from Maharashtra government
The Supreme Court on Thursday sought a response from the Maharashtra government on a petition related to the idols made from Plaster of Paris (POP). The petition challenged the High Court’s orders on 9 June and 24 July. In the order of July 24, the state statue immersion policy prohibited from making idols from POP and immersing them into water sources has been extended to March 2026. Also, the maximum height of POP idols has been increased to 6 feet.
