In Pakistan, a woman’s family chopped off both her legs because she refused to divorce her husband.

In Pakistan’s Nausharofroz district of Sindh, a married woman’s father and uncle chopped off both her legs with an axe. According to Pakistani media Geo News, the woman named Sobia wanted to divorce her husband. She had also applied for this.

Sobia told the police that her husband used to beat her daily. He did not have any job and neither did he take care of their two children at home. Frustrated by this, Sobia asked him for divorce. She told the same to her family members.

But Sobia’s family did not support her. They accused their daughter of bringing disrepute to the family. When the woman returned home on Friday in Karachi after being upset with her in-laws, her father Syed Mustafa Shah and her uncles Syed Qurban Shah, Ehsan Shah, Shah Nawaz and Mushtaq Shah attacked her with an axe.

The family accused me of defaming them after I got a divorce
The woman’s family fled from the spot leaving her covered in blood. Hearing the victim’s screams, the neighbours reached there and informed the police about the matter. Police said that Sobia had told her family several times about her husband’s beatings. But they ignored her complaint every time.

After this, when the woman applied for divorce, her family got angry with her. They told Sobia that by taking divorce, she is bringing disgrace to the whole family. The Superintendent of Police of Nausharofaroz has promised to provide security to the woman. The police have arrested the woman’s father Syed Mustafa Shah. The rest of the accused are still absconding.

A day earlier, a woman was gang-raped in Hafizabad
A day before this, on Thursday, a woman was gang-raped at gunpoint in front of her husband and three-year-old daughter in Hafizabad district of Punjab province. According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, the woman was going from Hafizabad to Chiniot when three robbers stopped her.

The robbers took the woman, her husband and daughter to the field, where they committed the crime. The police have arrested one accused so far. Two accused are still absconding.
