Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered to take military control of 70% of the Gaza Strip. During a conference in the West Bank on Thursday, he said, “We are suppressing Hamas at the moment. We now control 60% of the Gaza Strip. First we were at 50%, then we reached 60%. I have given orders to increase it…” Then someone in the crowd shouted, “100%.” On this, Netanyahu said, “Let’s move forward one step at a time. First reach 70%. For now, let’s start from there. We are putting pressure on them from all sides and will also deal with the remaining people.” Israel’s action against the ceasefire terms is being considered contrary to the terms of the ceasefire agreement signed in October 2025. Under the agreement, the Israeli army was to retreat to a fixed ‘Yellow Line’. After this line, about 53% of Gaza was under the control of Israel. Hamas alleges that Israel is silently pushing this border further inside. Now according to many reports, Israel controls about 60 to 64% of the Gaza area. In the next phase of the peace plan between Israel and Hamas, there is a proposal for Hamas to give up its weapons and the Israeli army to withdraw, but the talks between the two sides are currently stalled. 2.2 million people may have to live in one-third of Gaza’s territory. Most of the areas of Gaza have already been devastated due to war, bombing and continuous displacement. According to The Guardian report, if Israel captures 70% of the territory, then about 2.2 million people of Gaza will have to live in less than one-third of the total land. Muhammad Shehada, visiting fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, said the situation is already very bad. According to him, “There are tents of displaced families on every empty space. If the area becomes smaller further, a large number of people will have no place left to live.” Despite the ceasefire, 900 Palestinians died. A ceasefire was announced between Israel and Hamas in October 2025. Even after 7 months, the Israeli army is still attacking in Gaza. Gaza health officials say that about 900 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire came into force. The Israeli Army has declared a large area around the ‘Yellow Line’ as no-man’s-land. Here, action is being taken considering any activity as a threat. It was also told in the recent briefing of the United Nations that the movement of tanks is continuously increasing in the Jabaliya area of northern Gaza and drones are targeting any movement.
