The beginning of the year 2026 has been very special for actress Amrita Khanvilkar, who has made her own identity in the world of TV, film and OTT. This year, two of his web series were released, in one of which he shared the screen with Emraan Hashmi. Amrita has once again proved her versatility by playing powerful characters, action sequences and working in different genres. From theater to OTT, his confidence is clearly visible on every platform. In a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, the actress spoke openly about her experience of working with Emraan Hashmi, her recent projects and future plans. The beginning of 2026 has been quite rocking for you. Two web series have been released, how do you view it? It’s been a really rocking start. The interesting thing is that this time I didn’t even take any New Year’s resolution, and yet everything fell into place on its own. I was rehearsing for my Marathi theatre, when in December I got a call that Smuggli was going to be released on Netflix and my dates were needed for the promotion. Coincidentally, I was free on the two dates asked for, 7th and 8th January. Everything went very smoothly and I got a lot of love from the audience. Be it smuggling or Space Jane: Chandrayaan, your characters in both are completely different from each other. How challenging was it to play this? In Smuggli, I was not called for the role of Mithali Kamath, but for the audition of some other character. I don’t know what came to the mind of Neeraj and Raghav sir that they said, “Give her an audition too.” Neeraj sir asked me if I knew action. I honestly said that there is no action, but I am a dancer, so I understand choreography. After this, stunt rehearsal was conducted for one and a half hour and then audition was taken. As soon as she saw the audition, she said that I will do this role. During an action scene, I accidentally punched my stuntman, which hit his bone and my hand also got swollen. Despite this, I had to immediately put on gloves and do a photoshoot for the kick boxing montage. Forgetting the pain, I started working. Now I will tell these stories to my grandchildren in future. Whereas in Space Jane: Chandrayaan, I once again got a chance to work with TVF. Through this series, I felt very closely the life of scientists and how even 0.0001 percent matters in their profession. After playing such a role, has the fear inside you gone? Will you do more experimental roles in future? Yes, the fear ended the moment I did an action series with a director like Neeraj Pandey. After this I wanted to do a solid job with TVF too, and I got that opportunity. In future too, I want to do different types of work with the same honesty. Have you ever been starstruck after seeing Emraan Hashmi on the sets of Smuggli? Any special moment that was memorable for you? The tremendous chemistry that is visible between me and Nandish was possible only because of Imran sir. When I got hurt during an action scene, Emraan sir was behind me. He immediately stopped the scene, called for an ice bucket and himself held my hand and put it in it. I cried because of the pain, but he held me. Indeed, it would not be wrong to say that “Akha Bollywood on one side and Emraan Hashmi on the other.” Many make-up artists and crew members on the set would come to me and say ma’am, just get a photo clicked or we just have to see them. There was a different kind of comfort in working with him. His aura is different. He is such an actor who is neither bothered by failure nor success. According to you, how is the OTT platform giving opportunities to new actors? I think OTT is the medium for most writers. Here characters can be written in very different ways. Whether the character is dark or in the gray zone, the audience accepts it. OTT is a very powerful platform in terms of storytelling. When there are artists like Jaideep Ahlawat, Tilottama Shome, Konkona Sen Sharma, then what to say. There is no hero-heroine here, only content works. Apart from films, you are also very active in theater and this time you are producing your own show. Tell me about it? This is my debut in Marathi theatre, in which I am acting as well as a producer. I like theater very much because no other platform can give the satisfaction that theater gives. When 700–800 people come to see you live and you get to love them as soon as the show is over, that experience is priceless. Till now we have done 10 shows including Mumbai, Pune, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur. The name of the play is Lagan Panchami. How do you look at your journey so far? There have been many ups and downs in this journey. I thank God that he showed me this day. Everyone works hard, but sometimes the work is not noticed. I consider myself lucky that I got so much love from the audience, and for this I will always be grateful.
