US President Donald Trump has asked his negotiating team to stop talks with Iran. According to Al Jazeera’s report, Trump has taken this decision until Tehran is ready for a deal. The US official told Al Jazeera that there had been positive talks between the US and Iran so far, but Trump decided to wait before initiating further talks. On Tuesday, Trump had posted a map on social media declaring the Strait of Hormuz as part of America. After Trump’s post, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that calling the Strait of Hormuz as part of America is just a misunderstanding. In the post, Trump wrote – New American Territory. Trump posted a graphic on Truth Social, on which ‘New American Territory’ was written. This map showed the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding sea area. Parts of Iran, Oman and UAE were also visible in it. Trump said – Blockade continues in Hormuz. On Tuesday, Trump said about Hormuz that the American naval blockade is still in full force there. Hormuz is open and traffic is continuing there. At the same time, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that Iran will not reopen Hormuz until America fulfills its promise. Trump says Hormuz will become part of America? The straight answer is- no. The Strait of Hormuz is an international sea route located between Iran and Oman. Ships filled with oil and gas from many countries of the world pass through this route. Therefore, only one country does not have the right over it. Under international law, ships of all countries have the right to pass through this route. For this reason, no country can claim possession of this sea route on its own. Therefore, Trump’s map can be considered a political claim or message, but it does not automatically give America any new legal rights over the Strait of Hormuz. Who has authority over the Strait of Hormuz? The northern part of the Strait of Hormuz is with Iran, while the southern part is bordered by the Musandam region of Oman. Ships originating from the Persian Gulf take this route towards the Arabian Sea and then the Indian Ocean. For this reason, the Strait of Hormuz is an important sea route not just for one country but for many countries. America keeps its warships and naval forces deployed here to ensure maritime trade and the security of its allied countries. Why is the Strait of Hormuz so important? About 20% of the crude oil and a large amount of natural gas shipped to the world from the Gulf countries comes through the Strait of Hormuz. Before the US-Iran war started in February, about 20 million barrels of oil used to pass through this route every day. The energy supply of countries like India, China, Japan and South Korea is largely dependent on this route. For this reason, America wants the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz to become normal as soon as possible. On the other hand, Iran has made it clear that this route will not be opened until America removes its naval blockade and fulfills the promises made in the agreement. ————– Also read this news… Trump’s popularity declined, only 33% people liked him: Decline due to Iran war; 80% Americans said – the war will last long.
