US President Donald Trump showed off the new Air Force One aircraft on Friday. This aircraft was earlier with the Qatar government. In May last year, Qatar gifted this modern model of Boeing 747 to Trump. It was later designed as the official aircraft of the US President.
At Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, Trump described this plane as the most luxurious presidential plane in the world. He said, “This plane has been made like a flying White House. The world might have never seen such luxury before.”

The identity of the old Air Force-1 is gone, ready in the colors of Trump’s choice
The appearance of the new aircraft is completely different from the existing Air Force One. Instead of the light blue color of the old aircraft, its lower part has been painted dark navy blue, while a red stripe has been made on top of it.
The official seal of the President has been placed on the part of the aircraft from where the President boards. An American flag has been made on the back side.
Trump said that when this plane lands at London, Germany or any other airport in the world, no one will be able to match it. He said, “This is how our country should be represented. The colors and the design are of my choice, I agree.”
He also informed that the new Air Force One will flypast during the US Independence Day celebrations on July 4 next month.
Trump will go on a new plane to attend NATO summit
Trump confirmed that he will go to the NATO summit to be held in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, next month. After this, he will use it on his China tour in November also. Trump said he used this plane for the last time during his visit to France during the G7 Summit this week.
Use of Qatar’s gift plane only till 2028
The Trump government says that this plane received from Qatar is a ‘bridge aircraft’ i.e. a temporary solution. It will be used until Boeing produces a new presidential aircraft.
Boeing’s new planes were to be delivered in 2024, but the project was delayed. Now their delivery is likely to happen by 2028.
Trump said,
We were stuck in a bit of a difficult situation because new planes were not available on time. So I asked the Emir of Qatar if one of his planes could be used. Normal presidents don’t do this. They want to maintain distance from all this.
Questions were raised on the gift received from Qatar
The estimated price of the new Air Force One is said to be around $400 million (Rs 3600 crore). However, ethical and legal questions were raised in America about accepting such an expensive gift from a foreign government. Critics had asked whether it was appropriate to purchase such an expensive aircraft from a foreign government.
Trump has previously said that he will not use this aircraft after leaving the presidency. He had said that it would later be donated to a presidential library.

Controversy over color change is related to Trump’s first innings
Trump’s plan to change the color of the presidential plane is not new. Even during his first term, he had decided to give the new Air Force One the red, white and navy blue colors like his personal plane.
But in March 2023, the then President Joe Biden changed this decision. The Air Force review said the use of darker colors could increase costs and further delay the delivery of aircraft.
However, after returning to power, Trump again implemented the color scheme of his choice. The Air Force also said that in future, similar red, white and navy blue colors will be used on government aircraft of cabinet ministers and other senior officials.
Old Air Force One will still be in service
According to an Air Force official, the current presidential aircraft, called VC-25A, will not be retired yet. They will remain in service until the new VC-25B aircraft are fully completed and inducted into the fleet.
During this period, the new aircraft received from Qatar and both the existing Air Force One will be available for the President’s visits. The Rashtrapati Airlift Group will decide which aircraft will be used for which journey, depending on the needs of each mission.
Know about old Air Force One
Trump still uses Boeing 747-200B as Air Force One. The Boeing 747-200B is considered the safest aircraft in the world due to its safety, communications, and command capabilities. It’s like a mobile office for the US President.
Although there are two Boeing 747-200B aircraft, which are kept ready together, but the aircraft carrying the US President is called Air Force One.
New Air Force One does not have air refueling features
Air Force One has mid-air refueling features which the new Air Force One does not have. The old aircraft could remain in the sky non-stop for about 7 days in a nuclear war-like situation. The new aircraft will be able to fly for a maximum of 16 hours (14,430 km).
In order to keep the budget for developing the new plane under control, the White House had decided to remove this feature, because it costs a lot to install an air refueling system.
In the last 30 years of history, no US President has ever been refueled in the air while on board. For security reasons, refueling is always preferred at secure military bases.
The new Air Force’s unrefueled takeoff range is about 1,100 miles (about 1,770 kilometers) more than the old aircraft. It can fly approximately 8,900 miles (14,300+ km) at a time without stopping, which is considered sufficient for presidential travel.
