The National Testing Agency (NTA) is all set to conduct the highly anticipated National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2026 re-examination across the globe on Sunday. More than 22.79 lakh medical aspirants will reappear for the pen-and-paper entrance test following the cancellation of the original May 3 examination over paper leak allegations. To ensure absolute transparency and restore public faith in the national testing mechanism, the central government has mobilised a massive security apparatus to supervise operations across 551 cities in India and 14 international locations.
The three-hour-and-fifteen-minute examination will commence strictly at 2:00 PM and conclude at 5:15 PM, with the NTA allocating an extended 195 minutes (from 180 earlier) to candidates this year. In a bid to iron out technical glitches and test coordination before the massive logistical exercise, the testing agency conducted comprehensive nationwide mock drills on Saturday. The re-test represents a critical milestone for the country’s medical education sector as administrative bodies attempt to deliver a completely error-free process under intensive judicial and public scrutiny.
Massive Deployment and Multi-Layered Security Protocols
To safeguard the integrity of the examination matrix, authorities have deployed a massive workforce exceeding two lakh personnel. This includes 674 dedicated city coordinators, 6,669 independent observers, invigilators, local police units, and district administration teams. The physical movement of highly confidential examination materials is being executed under strict sealed protocols, with question papers transported in GPS-enabled vehicles under armed police escort. The Indian Air Force has also been engaged to facilitate the swift and secure transit of sensitive materials to remote designated hubs across the country.
At the examination venues, entry gates will open at 11:00 AM and close definitively at 1:30 PM, with officials clarifying that latecomers will be barred under all circumstances. Every candidate will undergo mandatory frisking through high-sensitivity metal detectors followed by Aadhaar-based biometric authentication at the entrance. In light of potential technical issues, the NTA has instructed centres that no candidate should be denied entry based on biometric failures alone; instead, manual verification protocols and formal undertakings will be utilised to clear eligible students.
Extreme Climate Measures and Reporting Guidelines
Considering the severe summer heat across northern and central India, the NTA has issued specific directions to institutional heads to ensure candidate welfare inside the examination halls. Centres must guarantee an uninterrupted power supply using dedicated generator backups to keep fans and lights operational during the peak afternoon shift. Basic amenities such as clean drinking water, adequate sanitation facilities, functional wall clocks, and on-site medical assistance are mandatory at all locations.
Candidates are required to bring a fresh colour printout of their newly issued re-examination admit card, an original government photo identification document, and two identical passport-sized photographs matching their initial application. To streamline security procedures, students are advised to wear light, half-sleeved clothing and open footwear like slippers, as closed shoes and heavy jewellery remain strictly prohibited. As the final countdown begins, the strict security grid and enhanced administrative protocols reflect an unyielding state directive to secure India’s premier medical gateway.
