After ‘Bhaksak’, director Pulkit is now coming with the Netflix film ‘Kartavya’, in which Saif Ali Khan has played a cop. Pulkit talks about the film’s backdrop, Saif’s casting etc… Pulkit says, ‘Kartavya’ is not based on any one true incident. This idea was running in my mind for many years. We often talk about our rights, but rarely discuss our duties. What is our responsibility as humans? A father’s duty is not only to give birth to a child, but it is also his duty to teach what is right and what is wrong in the life of that child. I was looking for the definition of that duty through the story. I wanted to create a world where the conflict between duty and humanity was visible. This idea was locked inside me for many years, which I have now brought out in the form of this film. Pulkit did not go to any other actor with the script of the film. Pulkit says, after ‘Bhaksak’ the relationship with Red Chillies and Netflix became stronger. When ‘Kartavya’ was written, it was narrated to him first and he immediately agreed. Saif was my first choice. I did not go to any other actor with this script. An imaginary place named ‘Jhamli’ has been created for the film. On the world of the film, Pulkit says…’We have created an imaginary place named ‘Jhamli’, whose tone was kept like the western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana border. Saif’s character of ‘Langra Tyagi’ in ‘Omkara’ always remained in my mind. I enjoy when you put a Bandra-based, English-speaking actor in the dust and dirt of a small town. After ‘Omkara’, very few directors used Saif’s desi and raw style. Pulkit believes, ‘After Omkara, very few directors used Saif’s desi and raw style. Efforts were definitely made in ‘Aarakshan’ and ‘Tandav’, but I did not get the Saif that was seen in ‘Langra Tyagi’.
