Controversy started from social media post The controversy regarding Orelian’s book started from a small anonymous social media account. Later, Samuel Fitoussi, a writer for the French newspaper Le Figaro, admitted that he used to run this account. Fitoussi said some users had asked him to check out Aurelian’s book. After this they checked the book with an AI handwriting recognition tool called Pangram. He said that its intention was not to target Aurelian. He wanted to draw people’s attention to the fact that AI is now being used in writing books as well. The book was examined with the help of three AI tools. Orelian’s book was examined by three AI detection tools and several experts. These investigations suggested the possibility of using AI in the book. However, experts also said that the results of such tools cannot be considered 100% accurate. Pangram – 95% of the book has the potential to use AI. GPT Zero – 87% of the book is likely to use AI. Winston – The possibility of human writing was estimated at 12% to 66% in different parts. French AI researcher Thierry Poibo said that there is a possibility of AI being used in the book, but it cannot be said with complete certainty yet. The book is being discussed a lot in France. Aurelian’s book was already discussed in France. It tells the story of a high school teacher who escapes a gang in Haiti. After this he crosses the Darien Gap (a dangerous path of dense forests, hills and swamps) and reaches America and then Canada. More than 54 thousand copies of the book have been sold in a few weeks. It received good reviews and was nominated for several literary awards. Aurelian had reached France this month to promote his book. His book was getting good response there. He was being invited to TV programs and the book was in the running for many major literary awards besides the Goncourt.
