TV actress Esha Singh and actor-director Peter Wilson’s film ‘Obsessions’ has been released in theaters today. In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, both of them spoke openly about their struggles, their journey from small towns to Mumbai and the challenges of making a place in the industry without any godfather. Peter told that to make the film, he took on the responsibility of acting, direction and production simultaneously, while Isha said that she herself did many risky stunts for this film. Read the entire conversation… Question: How do you feel after traveling from Bhopal and small towns to Mumbai and reaching the film ‘Obsession’ today? Answer/Isha Singh: Till now we were so busy in the preparations for the film that we did not get time to think about the journey. But when I look back, I feel that we have come a long way. Coming here from a small town was not easy. I am very grateful to God. Question: Peter, you have directed, produced and acted in this film. How challenging was it? Answer/Peter Wilson: It was very difficult. We first talked to many big actors for this character, but we did not have any big banner or industry profile. Then the team said that I should play this character myself. For this I had to increase my weight by 130-140 kg. As a director, I had to focus on both technical and creative aspects. This is completely the result of passion and stubbornness. Question: Isha, when you got the film offer, what was the reaction of your family? Answer/Eisha Singh: This is my second film. Before this I had done ‘Middle Class Love’, which was a romantic film. ‘Obsession’ is completely different. When the story was narrated to me, I felt that it was something new and challenging. There was less glamor in it and more scope for acting. So I immediately said yes. Question: Peter, why did you choose Isha for this role? Answer/Peter Wilson: I was looking for an actor who was completely dedicated to the character. I liked Isha’s theater background and dedication towards her work. He understood the character as soon as he heard the story. I was confident that she would do it with complete honesty. Question: What challenges do artists coming from small towns face? Answer/Isha Singh: People often say that acting is not a career. Especially girls have to listen to a lot of things. I was also told this was stupid. But my parents supported me fully. If you have the trust of your family, even difficult paths seem easy. Peter Wilson: I come from a small village in Punjab. I had no godfather in the industry. Many times people made fun of him and said make the film and show it after releasing it. But I did not give up. My team and colleagues fully supported me. Question: Have you ever faced rejection or replacement? Answer/Peter Wilson: Yes, many times it happened that even after being cast in a project, I was replaced. But these experiences made me stronger. Today that struggle has become my strength. Question: What does ‘Obsession’ mean to both of you? Answer/Isha Singh: I am obsessed with my work. I believe that keep working hard and leave the rest to God. Time answers every question. Peter Wilson: I’m obsessed with movies. It was always my dream to make my own film and start my own company. That passion has taken me here. Question: Have you ever found any fan’s madness scary? Answer/Isha Singh: Yes, a fan used to keep an eye on my every activity. He knew where I was and what I was doing. Later he started giving threats. We had to complain about him. That experience was quite scary. Question: Any memorable or risky experience during the shooting of the film? Answer/Isha Singh: I myself have done driving and many stunts in the film. Once during the shooting, the car lost its balance and a major accident was avoided. I was very scared at that time. Peter Wilson: We shot most of the stunts on real locations. Many times there were threats to the safety of the team and equipment, but fortunately everything remained safe. Question: What kind of support did you get from the industry? Answer/Isha Singh: I consider myself lucky that I have very good people around me. My friends and colleagues appreciated it a lot after watching the trailer. This support means a lot to me. Question: What would you like to say to the fans? Answer/Isha Singh: My fans have always supported me. They make posters for me, drive trends and stand by me in every difficult time. I thank him wholeheartedly and hope he likes ‘Obsession’. Question: What would you like to say to the audience? Answer/Peter Wilson: ‘Obsession’ is an independent film, which we have made with full hard work and honesty. This is a different kind of cinema, realistic and experimental. I would like the audience to watch it and give their love.
