Apple will assemble the Pro model of the iPhone 16 series in India soon after its launch. The ‘New Product Introduction’ process for its assembly will soon begin at Foxconn’s plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Apple has also started training its employees here for the production of iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.

After the global launch of these phones, their assembly will start in India. Apple will make the Made in India iPhone 16 available on the same day the sale starts worldwide. According to industry sources, Apple is going to diversify iPhone production outside China and increase its manufacturing in India. Also, it is shifting the revenue source to India.

Apple manufactures many models along with iPhone 15 in India

  • Currently, Apple manufactures several models in India including the new iPhone 15, but does not manufacture the high-specification Pro and Pro Max models.
  • The value of Apple India’s operations has also increased to Rs 1.97 lakh crore in FY 2024.
  • Apple’s sales in India stood at around Rs 66,800 crore during FY 2023-24, a record growth of 33%.

Apple is part of the PLI scheme of the Government of India
Apple’s manufacturer is part of the Government of India’s Rs 41,000 crore Production-Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI). iPhone manufacturing in India has gained momentum only after this scheme. The Government of India launched the PLI Scheme in 2020. This scheme gives companies from foreign countries an opportunity to take advantage of local manufacturing and also earn incentives on it.

iPhones are being made in India since 2017
Apple started manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017 with the iPhone SE. It has three electronics manufacturing service (EMS) partners – Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron. Now Wistron’s Indian business has been bought by Tata. After the iPhone SE, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 15 were also manufactured in India.
