After the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi called it a victory for the students and the future of the country. Rahul Gandhi said that this is not the defeat of any one person, but the victory of the voice of the youth of the country, who continuously raised the demand for accountability and improvement in the education system. He said that our protest against the government will continue.
Rahul Gandhi Speaking to the media, he said, “Dharmendra Pradhan had to go. This is the victory of our students, this is the victory of the future of India.” He said that India’s education system was once counted among the most respected systems in the world, but in the last few years it has been under continuous attack. RSS has hollowed out the education system. According to him, the education system was weakened, attempts were made to take over it and gradually its privatization was increased. The students’ movement was a natural reaction against this entire process.
Rahul Gandhi said, “The education system used to be our pride, which was discussed all over the world. For years, it has been attacked, captured and privatized. What happened today is a reaction to the same. Now the government should take concrete steps to improve the system.”
He also said that Dharmendra Pradhan was only a “symbol” and that the students’ movement was not against any one minister, but to demand transparency, fairness and accountability in the education system.
He also supported two major demands of the students. First, public and visible action should be taken against the officials and people responsible for taking action against the students during the protest. Second, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologize to the students. Rahul Gandhi also made serious allegations against Home Minister Amit Shah. He said that Amit Shah is directly responsible for the violence against students and Congress will raise this issue prominently in Parliament.
He said that India’s employment, education, institutional and media systems are going through a serious crisis and this is the real reason for the current movement. Rahul Gandhi warned the government and said that if the voices of the public and students are not heard, then a much bigger movement can be seen in the future.
