Amid the fall in US markets, the Indian stock market may see a rise today i.e. on August 6. A day earlier on Monday, the Sensex fell 2,222 points (2.74%) to close at 78,759.
At the same time, Nifty fell by 662 points (2.68%). It closed at 24,055. BSE’s midcap index fell by 1,718 points (3.60%) and closed at 45,956. The smallcap index fell by 2,297 points (4.21%).
Four big things that will determine the market movement
1. Reserve Bank meeting: The meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank is starting from today. On August 8, 2024, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das will inform about the decisions taken in the meeting. Experts expect RBI to keep interest rates unchanged at 6.5%.
2. Quarterly results of companies: This week, more than 900 companies will release their first quarter results. Today, companies like Tata Power, TVS Motors, Bata, Raymond are going to release their April-June quarter results. The results of companies have an impact on the market sentiment.
3. Global market movements: On Monday, the US market Dow Jones fell 2.60% and closed at 38,703. Nasdaq also fell 3.43%. It closed at 16,200. Today, Japan’s Nikkei is up 10% in the Asian markets. The Nifty has also risen 0.81%.
4. Foreign and domestic investors: Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹10,073.75 crore on August 5. During this period, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹9,155.55 crore. That is, foreign investors are still selling.
The biggest decline in the US market in almost 2 years
The US market S&P 500 fell 3% on Monday, its worst day since September 2022. The decline leaves the index 8.5% below its all-time high in July, but it is still up 8.7% in 2024.
Stocks of tech companies were at the forefront in pulling the market down. Apple’s stock fell by 4.8%, while Meta and Nvidia saw a decline of 2.5% and 6.4% respectively. This decline in the US markets has occurred due to the economic slowdown.
