The Department of Telecommunications has issued a new advisory on September 21 saying that buying or selling a SIM with a fake ID or tampering with the IMEI number of a mobile can lead to a jail term of 3 years and a fine of up to ₹ 50 lakh.
The government has advised all citizens to immediately check by visiting the Sanchar Saathi portal or app that no unknown mobile number is active on their ID without their knowledge.

Onion prices in the country rose sharply during June-September. According to government data, the average retail price of onion on June 1 was Rs 29.50 per kg.
On September 17, it increased to Rs 53.78 per kg. That means, in just about three and a half months, there was a huge increase of 82.3% in onion prices.
