At that time the concept of OTT was not so clear for us. I had played the lead role in ‘Sadda Haq’, so I felt why should I play someone’s sister now. I want to go to the movies. Question: Then how did you get ready for ‘Mirzapur’? Answer: When the team called me again, I understood the script and the character a little. I was narrated a scene in which Munna picks me up and later Dimpy picks up the gun and says stop the car, otherwise we will hit you. Hearing that scene, I felt that this is not just someone’s sister’s character. It has a story and strength of its own. Then I felt I should do it. However, I had a different expectation when I went to Excel’s office. Question: You told that you had a different expectation in your mind while going to Excel’s office. what was that? Answer: When I was called to Excel’s office, I went with the thought that maybe I would meet Ritesh Sidhwani or Farhan Akhtar there and their eyes would fall on me. It was also in my mind that maybe they might sign me as a heroine in a film. I wanted to work in films, so there was such expectation. Answer: Didn’t meet Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, but liked the energy there. I met director Gurmeet Singh, Karan Anshuman and writer Puneet Krishna. Question: What did you like most about the character of Dimpy? Answer: I liked Dimpy’s journey very much. In the beginning she is a quiet and innocent girl, but her life changes as the story progresses. She loses a lot and then a different kind of strength comes inside her. Answer: I always call it ‘Mirzapur Family’. This is not just to say, it really feels like we are a family. When we shoot for ‘Mirzapur’, we feel as if we are back home. This time when so many people gathered again for the film, it felt like a reunion. Like school or college friends meet after many years and the same old bonding comes back. Question: How was it meeting old artists after so many years? Answer: Felt very good. While working together, ‘Mirzapur’ has become very special for us. We’ve all seen a lot with it. When they came together again, it felt as if the child inside everyone had returned. Ali, Divendu, Shriya, Jeetu and everyone else were very excited. New people also joined in such a way that it did not seem that they were new. Question: Pankaj Tripathi, what changes do you see in Ali Fazal and Divendu Sharma after so many years? Answer: An actor gets better with his experience. All of them have done great work after ‘Mirzapur’, but personally I don’t see any big change in them. When we meet them, we see the same old innocence. I get a lot of love on the sets because I am the youngest. Everyone has treated me with great love. Question: How is your relationship with Pankaj Tripathi? Answer: I had seen his work earlier and I found him a very good actor. But I didn’t know that there was a child inside her too. Then when it was revealed that the film was going back to the world of Season 1, it felt a bit strange, because we had moved forward in the lives of the characters till Season 3. But when I heard the script and shot it, I felt that it had been made very well in a new style. Question: How difficult was it for you to go back to the world of Season 1? Answer: It was very difficult. We all had progressed a lot in the lives of our characters. But the film had to go back to the same period. On one hand, the same world, the same characters and the same relationships had to be shown, on the other hand, it had to be made new for the big screen.
