Harshita Gaur started acting from TV and got a different identity from ‘Mirzapur’. In the interview, he shared many things including his first earning, support of parents and upcoming projects. Apart from being a doctor, his mother has also done theater for 9 years. In childhood, Harshita had dreamed of becoming an actor, but her parents expected that this dream would end after some time. He also mentioned trying to buy his 12-year-old house in Mumbai. Apart from this, she also talked about the prince of dreams, heartbreak and learning to love oneself. How did the idea of acting come into your childhood? I must have been around 7-8 years old when I told my mother that I wanted to come on TV. She did not watch many films in her childhood, but was learning Kathak from the age of 4 and used to perform on stage. When people used to praise me and come to meet me, maybe from there the thought of becoming an actor came. Your mother also did theatre? Yes, my mother is a doctor, but she also did theater in Punjab for about 9 years. As a child, I did not know that she had been a theater actor. When I grew up a little, he told me. I think the acting bug probably came from him. When you told your parents that you wanted to become an actor, what was their reaction? Initially they thought that I would forget after some time. But this dream never ended. After 10th, I had to choose medical or non-medical, then I told my father that I will not become a doctor, I want to become an actor. He still said to do non-medical or engineering. Then how did you decide to do engineering? I had to do acting. At that time there were no graduation courses in NSD and FTII, so graduation had to be done. I thought that when it has to be done, I can do anything, so I did engineering. I jokingly say that I did not come to acting from engineering, but engineering came on the way to acting. Your father did not stop you from coming to Mumbai for acting? My father never stopped me from trying. He himself had become a doctor after coming from a village, so perhaps he felt that it was important to try his own path. During college, I used to do small shoots in Delhi. Once she came to Mumbai on a four-day leave just to give an audition. Papa had said that first go and test yourself, who knows you may be rejected there. How much was your first income and what did you do with it? My first earning was ₹1000. I shot for about 12 hours for an ad and got ₹1000. I don’t think I did anything special with that. Just went home and told that this is just the beginning. How much did the earnings increase after the TV show? You don’t get much money in the beginning because you are new. But as the show went on and became a hit, the earnings gradually increased. I did the show for three years and later my fees also increased. However, compared to what people earn in TV, I did not earn much. It’s been many years since you came to Mumbai, do you still live in the same house? Yes, I have been living in this house ever since I came to Mumbai. It’s been almost 12 years. People find it a big deal that in a city like Mumbai, someone has been living in the same house for so many years. Have you ever thought of buying your own home? Absolutely thought about it. I tried to buy this house, but my landlord uncle and aunt did not want to sell it. Buying a house in Mumbai is not easy. If you do not have at least 70-80 percent down payment, then buying a house by taking a loan can be expensive. There is at least some flexibility in rent. Parents now question about marriage? Now he has stopped speaking. In the beginning he tried hard because every parent wants their child to settle down. But now they feel that marriage cannot be done by forcing someone. That’s why their blessings and prayers keep going on that I get a good partner. What should the man of your dreams be like? The most important thing for me is that he should be emotionally aware. He understands his patterns, mistakes and strengths. Communication should be good, so that he can express his feelings openly. It is very important for me that every person living around him feels respected. Have you found your dream man yet? There have been relationships, but at that time we both probably were not right together. Every person is on his own journey and learns accordingly. The people in my past relationships are very nice to me personally and are still my friends today. Have you ever had your heart broken? Yes, absolutely. I may have hurt someone’s heart, but mine is broken too. It took me about one and a half to two years to come out of this. When I came out of it, I felt that perhaps that relationship had come into my life so that I could learn to love myself. What was the biggest lesson you learned from that relationship? That relationship taught me a lot. I too may have made mistakes and there was nothing wrong with the person in front of me. But after that experience I became a different person. Today, when I look back, I feel that it was good that that period came in my life, because from it I learned to understand and love myself. Which projects do you currently have in the pipeline? Apart from the film ‘Mirzapur’ there are two more projects. It is a horror project, made by Nikhil Advani’s company. It stars Parambrata Chakraborty, Gulshan Devaiah, Preeti Panigrahi and Sumedh. This is for Amazon. Apart from this, he has done a show with Divyendu, Bhuvan Arora and Vijay Maurya. Question: Tell us something about the other show? It has been directed by Sameer Vidwans, who has made films like ‘Satyprem Ki Katha’ and ‘Anandi Gopal’. He is a National Award Winner. This show is also for Amazon. Both the shows have been announced. The audience will be able to see it upon release.
