US President Donald Trump may remove Defense Minister Pete Hegseth from the post. According to the report of American magazine ‘The Atlantic’, Hegseth had instigated them to attack Iran.

According to the report, Hegseth had assured Trump that the war would end within a few months. However, even after 8 months the war continues. Now Trump is trying to decide who is responsible for this war lasting so long.

Trump also raised questions on the functioning of the Army Chief

Trump is seeking opinion from some of his close aides about the functioning of Defense Secretary Hegseth and General Dan Kane, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Army. Hegseth and Kaine have been key advisers to Trump on the war.

According to the report, many people in the White House do not like Hegseth. Some people close to Trump believe that Hegseth is not telling the President the real situation of the war. They paint a good picture of the war to keep them happy.

A close adviser to Trump said, ‘Hegseth is adept at telling the president exactly what he wants to hear.’

However, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell dismissed these allegations as false. He said Hegseth provides complete information about military operations to the President and senior White House officials.

Trump fears loss in midterm elections

Trump feels that the Iran war is affecting the Republican Party’s victory in the midterm elections. Even in the White House, there is a fear of defeat in the House of Representatives and loss of majority in the Senate. Trump is angry with this.

They are blaming the war for their political difficulties. Now they want to hold accountable those who had assured them of an early victory.

Last week, Hegseth and General Dan Kaine presented Trump and Vice President JD Vance with several options for war. Their objective was to create a situation in which Trump could declare victory. Admiral Brad Cooper, head of the US Central Command, also attended the meeting.

Iran is not ready to bow down even after continuous attacks

In late February, America and Israel attacked Iran for several weeks. The small attacks that followed also hardened Iran’s stance.

It retaliated against US bases and allied countries in the region. If there is a new attack, its impact on America’s weapons stockpile can be clearly visible.

Michael Cohen, an expert at the Stimson Center think tank, said that if Iran does not retreat even after the new attacks, it will reveal the limits of America’s military power. He raised the question, ‘If you keep attacking continuously and Iran does not step back, then what will you do… increase the attacks further?’

Hegseth’s action to win Trump’s trust

Hegseth has taken action against officials suspected of leaking classified information to the media in order to strengthen his image in the eyes of Trump.

Last week he removed Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, planning director of the Joint Staff. According to Pentagon officials, this action was taken after news related to Iran war and arms shortage was leaked.

US Army Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia took office in December 2025.

Hegseth believes that classified information is being leaked in the Joint Staff, working under General Dan Kane. According to the report, he presents himself to his close people as an officer who supports the President in every situation.

Trump likes this. He has been doubting the loyalty of senior Pentagon officials since his first term. He feels that some officers are not completely loyal to him.
