Just three months after heart surgery, he was shooting a chase sequence with a camera in the forest. Six-seven months after the second surgery, Singh produced the 111-minute single-shot episode, Satam said. He guided cameraman Nitin Rao during the entire shoot. Shivaji Satam, remembering BP Singh’s contribution to Indian television, said, “A person like him should have got the Padma Shri, but he never cared about it. He used to say, ‘Leave it, what difference does it make? Our audience is with us, isn’t it?’ Even today the audience is with us. This is a big achievement in itself.” Dayanand Shetty also paid tribute. Dayanand Shetty remembered BP Singh while talking to Hindustan Times. Shetty said, “There was nothing else in BP Singh ji’s life except creating content. He was dedicated to his work and had a lot of passion.” “He was one of our best cameramen. There came a time when he did not get work for many years. Despite this he did not give up. In an interview given to Devang Bhatt, BP Singh had narrated many interesting stories related to his struggle, the beginning of CID and the cast of the show. BP Singh had told that there were both success and difficulties in his career. One of his Marathi serials was a big hit, but it stopped after 31 episodes. After this he had no work for about four-five years. He told that after getting success he thought that now everything will become easy. But circumstances change rapidly in the TV industry. There came a time when even after asking for help from the bank, no one was ready to listen to him. When BP Singh got a loan of Rs 45 lakh from the bank, he narrated an interesting incident in the interview. He told that one day a Citi Bank employee came to his house. He said that the bank wants to give them a loan. Actually, BP Singh had earlier taken a car loan and had paid all its installments on time. For this reason the bank offered him a personal loan. Initially BP Singh did not believe. He said that his financial condition was not good at that time. But the bank employee gave him time to think and came home again. Ultimately, he got a loan of around Rs 40 lakh. He also added about five lakh rupees of his savings to it. In this way, by raising approximately Rs 45 lakh, he made the pilot episode of CID. BP Singh had described this help as a great relief in his difficult times. The idea of CID came from a doctor’s talk. BP Singh told that the idea of CID came to him during a conversation related to forensic science. He met a forensic doctor. The doctor tells them that the dead body leaves behind many evidences which can lead to the discovery of the crime. BP Singh found this very interesting. He thought that if these scientific methods were shown through stories, the audience would get to see something new. After this he read books related to forensic science. He also informed his writers about this. This thinking gave a different identity to the stories of CID. BP Singh had earlier made a successful show like Aahat. Later CID also got a chance to reach the audience. How was the casting of Shivaji Satam and Daya? BP Singh told that Shivaji Satam was his first choice for the role of ACP Pradyuman. The friendship between both was very old. They knew each other since Shivaji worked in Satam Bank. BP Singh felt that there was honesty in Shivaji Satam’s eyes. This was important for the character of ACP Pradyuman. The story of casting of Inspector Daya was also interesting. BP Singh told that one day a member of his team suggested to call actor Dayanand Shetty for the role of Daya. After about two hours, Dayanand Shetty arrived for the audition. BP Singh gave him a two-page dialogue. Dayanand Shetty remembered it and narrated it with emotion. BP Singh felt that he had found the right actor for his character. After the death of BP Singh, people searched on Google to know about him, after which he started trending.
