- Maharashtra Heatwave: 4 Cities Above 45°C; Banda UP, Phalodi Rajasthan Hottest

More than half of the country is in the grip of heatwave. Temperatures crossed 40°C in many cities of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. Akola in Maharashtra was the hottest in the country at 45.9°C. Jalgaon, Wardha and Amravati also recorded temperatures above 45°C.
The temperature was recorded at 45.2°C in Phalodi, Rajasthan, and 45.1°C in Jaisalmer and Barmer. The mercury was 44.8°C in Ganganagar and 44°C in Jodhpur. After heatwave like conditions throughout the day in Jaipur, Bikaner and Nagaur, it rained in the evening. This provided some relief from the heat.
Here, Banda in UP was the hottest district of the state. The temperature here was 45.2°C. Apart from this, Bhavnagar of Gujarat with 45.2°C and Khandwa of Madhya Pradesh with 44.5°C were the hottest cities of their state.
Storm and rain caused havoc in UP on Wednesday. 111 people died in the state. Maximum 21 deaths occurred in Prayagraj and 17 in Bhadohi. Russian President Vladimir Putin also expressed grief over these deaths.

- There may be rain and strong winds in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Western UP.
- Hail may fall along with rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand. Strong winds may also blow in hilly areas.
- There is an alert of lightning along with rain in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and North-Eastern states.
17 May:
- There is a severe heatwave alert in Rajasthan. The nights will also be warm. Heat wave will also prevail in Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
- There is a warning of inclement weather with lightning and strong winds in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Odisha.
- There is a possibility of heavy rain in Assam, Meghalaya, Kerala, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
