Giving a strong message to the White House, a group of 19 MPs of the US Congress has written a letter to President Donald Trump. This letter has been written to Trump under the leadership of MPs Deborah Ross and Ro Khanna.

American lawmakers wrote this letter on October 8, in which it was said that increasing the tariff on India to 50 percent has spoiled America’s relations with India, the world’s largest democracy. This has had a negative impact on both the countries. The MPs requested the President to immediately improve relations with India.
The MPs had also written a letter in August 2025 saying that the Trump government has increased the tariff on Indian goods to 50 percent. An additional tariff of 25 percent has been imposed on India. Such steps have affected Indian manufacturers and American consumers, disrupting the supply chain.
Highlighting the importance of India as a trading partner, US lawmakers said American manufacturers depend on India for key materials in various sectors, from semiconductors to healthcare and energy. American companies investing in India gain access to one of the fastest growing consumer markets in the world. Indian investments in the US have created jobs and economic opportunities for local communities.
He warned that continuously increasing tariffs affects the relations between India and America. This is affecting the expenses of American families and hampering the competitiveness of American companies globally.
It was also said in this letter that with these steps of the Trump government, we have brought India closer to China and Russia. India’s importance in the Indo Pacific is continuously increasing with its participation in the Quad. India can become an excellent partner to counter China.
