Earlier on August 9 also, the flag was hoisted in a program and it remained hoisted throughout the night. Conservative leader said – this is respect, not occupation Welsh Conservative MP Natasha Asghar criticized the stance of Reform. She said that she herself has participated in flag hoisting programs of Pakistani, Indian and Polish communities. He said that people from different political parties participate in these programs. This is not the occupation of any community, but a way of showing respect towards each other. Asghar said, “I am fed up with Reform’s efforts to incite racial discord.” He advised Reform leaders to attend such programs so that they can see how harmony works between different communities. Council said – Indian flag was also hoisted Cardiff Council’s Labor leader Chris Weaver said that the purpose of hoisting the flag on Pakistan’s Independence Day was to honor the contribution of the Pakistani community living in Cardiff. He told that the Indian flag was also hoisted on the occasion of India’s Independence Day on 15th August. Weaver said the council has long flown flags of different countries on important national and international occasions. The flags of Wales and Britain also remain on Cardiff Castle. He said, “This entire controversy has arisen because of wrong information and it should stop now.” Old photo of 2024 also in controversy Reform Wales leader Dan Thomas shared a photo on social media on Sunday and wrote, “Now Labor is hoisting the Pakistan flag on Cardiff Castle.” But this picture was not new. It was posted by a BBC journalist on 14 August 2024, on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day. Pakistan flag was not visible on Cardiff Castle on Monday. BBC Wales asked Reform why Thomas used a two-year-old photo and wrote in the post as if the flag had just been hoisted. Reform Wales did not answer this question. Local leaders said – there is no threat to the identity of Wales. Westminster leader of a local party in Wales, Liz Saville Roberts, also targeted the reform. He said that there is no threat to the identity of Wales by flying the flag of another country. According to him, Robert Jenrick is raising such issues to divert attention from the problems of his party. Reform Wales has previously protested against the hoisting of the Ukrainian flag outside the Senedd, the Parliament of Wales in Cardiff Bay. In recognition of the contribution of the Pakistani community, Cardiff Council said Cardiff Castle is one of the city’s key historic and public buildings. By hoisting the flag here on such occasions, the city honors various local, national and international occasions.
