B Sudarshan Reddy is the opposition candidate in the Vice Presidential election.
Opposition’s Vice Presidential candidate B Sudarshan Reddy said on Monday that his only ideology is the ‘Constitution’. I am not a supporter of Naxalite. Salwa Judum’s decision was not in favor of the Maoists. If it was so, why was it not challenged till now?
In an interview given to NDTV, he said- I will write a letter to all MPs and Ministers including the Prime Minister in the Vice Presidential elections and seek support for myself. I will also contact CM N Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh. If I am selected, my top priority will have to protect the constitution.
On Monday, retired judges criticized B. Sudarshan Reddy’s remarks on Home Minister Amit Shah. Shah has accused Reddy of supporting Naxalism, which has been described by the former judges as unfortunate. Said that it would be intelligent to respect the post of Vice President.
In fact, Amit Shah said in Kerala on 22 August, ‘Former Supreme Court judge Sudarshan Reddy is the same person who helped Naxalism. He ruled on Salwa Judum. If the decision on Salwa Judum did not come, the Naxalite extremism would have ended by 2020.

Salwa Judum decision does not support Naxalism
The group of retired judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court consists of 18 judges including former judge Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice J Chelameswar. He said that Salwa Judum verdict does not clearly or indirectly supports Naxalism or its ideology.
He said that the campaign for the post of Vice President may be ideological, but it can be run with decency and dignity. One should avoid criticizing the so -called ideology of any candidate.

The group of retired judges issued a statement saying that the prejudice of the Supreme Court on behalf of a high political officer is expected to negatively affect the judges. This can harm the independence of the judiciary.
Those who signed the statement include former Supreme Court judge AK Patnaik, Justice Abhay Oka, Justice Gopal Gowda, Justice Vikramjit Sen, Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice Madan B. Lokur, Justice J Chelameswar, Senior Advocate Sanjay Hegde and Prof. Mohan Gopal is included.

On Shah’s comment, Reddy said on 23 August that he does not want to debate issues with the Home Minister. This decision is not of him, but of the Supreme Court. He only wrote the decision. If Amit Shah had read the entire decision, he would not have made this comment.

In fact, in Chhattisgarh, the government had launched a Salwa Judum campaign to fight the Naxalites, in which tribal youth were made a special police officer by giving weapons. In 2011, a bench of Justice B Sudarshan Reddy of the Supreme Court prohibited this, saying that this method is unconstitutional and illegal.
The court had said that the government’s job is to send the security forces to fight the Naxalites, not to put the poor tribals in danger. The judgment ordered that weapons should be taken immediately from these youth. The government should work on the root causes of Naxalism.
Election will be held on 9 September
The Vice Presidential elections will be held on 9 September. For this, the opposition has made B Sudarshan Reddy its candidate. He will contest against NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan.
Reddy filed his nomination on August 21 in the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav, DMK MP Tiruchi Shiva, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut and many other leaders of the coalition were also present during this period.
