A case of murder of another Hindu youth by burning him alive has come to light in Narsindi district of Bangladesh. The burnt body of 23-year-old Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik was found inside a shop on Friday night. The family has called it a planned murder. The incident took place in the Masjid Market area adjacent to the Police Lines of Narsindi city. Chanchal’s body was found inside the garage where he worked. Police have started investigation. And CCTV footage is being scrutinized. According to local people, Chanchal was sleeping inside the garage at the time of the incident. During the night, someone poured petrol on the shutter from outside and set it on fire. The fire spread quickly inside. Earlier, on December 18, 2025, Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a mob in Mymensingh district. His body was hanged on a tree and set on fire. 10 Hindus have been murdered in the last 40 days. Eyewitness said – Chanchal kept on suffering for a long time and after getting tired, he fell asleep in the shop. According to CCTV footage, unknown assailants poured petrol on the shutter from outside and then set it on fire. The fire spread rapidly. Stuck due to a loose lock shutter. Eyewitnesses said that Chanchal remained trapped in the fire and kept suffering for a long time. He was screaming for help, but the shutter was locked from outside. He couldn’t find a way out. People described the incident as heart-wrenching. Fire service arrived on the information of local people and it took about an hour to extinguish the fire. But Chanchal was completely burnt and he died on the spot. Local shopkeeper Rajib Sarkar, citing CCTV, said, “It was not an accident. The camera showed that many people deliberately set fire to the shutters.” Had come for work, Chanchal was the only earning person in the family. He was a resident of Lakshmipur village of Kamila district. He lived in Narsindi because of his job. He was the only earning person in the family. Chanchal used to work in a garage in Masjid Market near Police Lines for the last 6 years. Chanchal’s father Khokan Chandra Bhowmik has already passed away. He was taking care of his ailing mother and two brothers. The elder brother is disabled and there is a younger brother. The family has described Chanchal’s death as planned. He has demanded the arrest of those responsible. A family member said, “This was not an accident. This was a brutal and premeditated murder.” Hindu leaders condemn the murder Local Hindu community leaders have strongly condemned the murder. He called it barbaric and inhumane. He has demanded strict action from the authorities by arresting the criminals soon. Hindu leaders expressed concern over crimes against Hindus and said that concrete steps should be taken for the safety of minorities in the area. He said that the security of minorities and vulnerable laborers should be strengthened. Human rights activists said that there should be a fair investigation and justice should be given. He has demanded to stop these incidents. Police said – The matter is serious, the culprits will not be spared. The local police has collected evidence from the spot. OC Mamun said that several police teams are working on the identification and arrest of criminals. No one associated with this crime will be spared. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said in a press briefing that- “We are witnessing a worrying pattern of repeated attacks on minorities and their properties in Bangladesh. Such incidents should be dealt with strictly and immediately.”
