Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the newly inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan facility will guide policies and direction of a ‘Viksit Bharat’, or developed India, and important decisions of the country’s ‘Amrit Kaal’ will be made here.

Modi said Kartavya Bhavan embodies the resolve to fulfil India’s dreams and, in the past 11 years, the country has built a governance model that is transparent, responsive and citizen-centric.

“Our government is rebuilding the nation with a holistic vision. During Amrit Kaal, important decisions will be taken from this new building and the direction of the country will be decided from here. I congratulate everyone on this new building as a lot of thought has gone into its construction. Kartavya Bhavan will guide the policies and direction of a developed India,” Modi said during a public function on Kartavya Path.

Modi further said this is not simply about some new buildings or basic infrastructure. He said the central government will save Rs 1,500 crore on rent annually after the construction of 10 buildings of Common Central Secretariat.

“August is the month of revolution and, ahead of August 15, we are witnessing a series of historic milestones related to the building of a modern India, one after the other…” he said. “Not a single part of the country is untouched by the stream of development today.”

Earlier in the day, he inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan — the first of the 10 upcoming Common Central Secretariat buildings, which will house offices of all ministries. The ambitious project is aimed at bringing ministries and departments under one roof for efficiency.

Kartavya Bhavan-03, the first to be inaugurated, will house the Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, MSME, DoPT, Petroleum & Natural Gas ministries, and the Principal Scientific Adviser’s office.

Many key ministries currently function from ageing buildings like Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, and Nirman Bhawan, constructed between the 1950s and 1970s, which are now “structurally outdated and inefficient,” according to the government.
