The Bombay High Court on Wednesday (August 21) took suo motu cognizance of the sexual abuse case in Badlapur in Thane district of Maharashtra. The case will be heard on Thursday (August 22). A division bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Prithviraj Chavan will hear the case at 10.30 am.
Actually, this incident of sexual abuse happened on 12th and 13th August in Adarsh School of Badlapur. 23 year old sweeper Akshay Shinde sexually abused two girls studying in kindergarten. After the incident, both the girls were scared of going to school.
When the parents of one of the girls got suspicious, they questioned their daughter. She told them everything. The parents of the first girl talked to the parents of the second girl. After this, both the girls were medically examined. This revealed sexual abuse.
Both the families reached the police station to register the case. Senior police inspector Shubhada Shitole hesitated in registering the FIR despite it being a POCSO case. The victim families sought help from social workers. Then the complaint was registered in Badalpur police station.
Two days later, a case was registered late night on 16 August. The accused was arrested on 17 August. During police interrogation, it was revealed that the accused Akshay Shinde was appointed on contract in the school on 1 August itself. On 20 August, there was a huge uproar in Badlapur. An SIT has been formed to investigate the matter.
The protesters threw the tear gas shells fired by the police back at the police.
There was a huge protest demanding death penalty for the accused
On August 20, thousands of people protested against the sexual abuse incident. People first vandalized the school where the incident took place. They also protested at Badlapur station from 8 am to 6 pm. The movement of local trains was halted for more than 10 hours.
During the uproar, the crowd pelted stones on the police. By evening, the police lathicharged and cleared the railway track. The state government suspended 3 police personnel including the woman police inspector of Badalpur police station who kept delaying the registration of the sexual harassment case for 12 hours.
17 policemen were injured during the uproar. Police filed FIR against about 300 protesters. 72 people were arrested. Internet and schools remained closed in Badlapur even on 21 August. At the same time, SIT has been formed under the leadership of IG Aarti Singh to investigate the case. The case will run in a fast track court and the public prosecutor will be Ujjwal Nikam. 6 girl students sexually assaulted in Akola
After the Badalpur incident, a case of sexual exploitation of school girls came to light in Akola too. Here Pramod Manohar, a teacher of the Zila Parishad School of Kajikhed, was accused of molesting school girls.
The accused teacher sexually harassed 6 girl students studying in class 8. The teacher used to show them pornographic videos and touch them inappropriately. On the complaint of the girl students, the police have arrested the teacher.
The school principal said that molestation took place during the program
On the arrest of the teacher, the school principal Ravindra Samdur said, there was a program in the school yesterday. After the program was over, the teacher went to meet the students of class 7-8. 5-6 girls said that they were molested, then we came to know about it, till then we were not aware of any such thing.
The students said that this has been going on for the last four months. The students informed their parents about the incident on Tuesday. After this, the angry parents approached the Ural police and lodged a complaint against the teacher.
Police said- statements of girl students were taken, POCSO case was registered against the accused
Akola SP Bachchan Singh said, the police have received a complaint against teacher Pramod Manohar for molesting 6 school girls. The police immediately arrested the accused teacher and recorded the statements of the victim girls. A POCSO case has been registered against the accused.
