Seeing the beginning of the film “Bhagwat”, it seems that the story will be based on controversial issues like “Love Jihad” and “Religion Conversion”. But as the story progresses, it becomes clear that this film reveals layers of human passion and mental deformity, not religion or politics.

Director Akshay Shere has tried to connect this subject with the social environment – ​​something like “Dahaad” which came on OTT had done. However “Bhagwat” does not achieve the same edge and cinematic depth.

ACP Vishwas Bhagwat (Arshad Warsi) is suddenly transferred to Robertsganj while investigating a suspenseful case. While a girl named Poonam Mishra mysteriously goes missing, following which political rhetoric, debate on religious conversion and mob violence begin.

When Vishwas investigates deeper, he comes to know that many girls like Kaushalya, Santosh, Sandhya have gone missing in the last few months. The story of each case is almost the same – emerging from everyday life and then mysteriously disappearing.

Meanwhile, the love story of Sameer and Meera is going on in Banaras, which seems innocent in the beginning but gradually takes a scary turn.

The climax of the film makes it clear that this is not a matter of religion or politics, but of the darkness hidden within humans.

How was the acting of the star cast?

Arshad has shown a balance of seriousness and reality in the character of Vishwas Bhagwat. He has accurately captured the sensitivity of a tired but honest police officer.

Jeetendra Kumar stuns the audience with his psychotic avatar — the restlessness in his eyes and calm face add to the story. The supporting cast (Raghav, Arjun etc.) does their part honestly, although they seem to lack depth in some scenes.

Direction and technical aspects of the film

Akshay Shere has tried to keep the background and tone of the film real. The locations of Robertsganj and Banaras keep the story grounded. However, the flow of the story slows down in the middle, due to which the effect of suspense is reduced.

Had Hemal Kothari’s editing been a little tighter, the film could have been more impactful. Sumit Saxena’s dialogues are realistic, but the exposition seems excessive at some places.

Mangesh Dhakade’s background score is the strength of the film. The music creates the atmosphere of a scene filled with investigation, fear and mystery. Songs like “Kachha Kachcha Aam” and “Gawaahi De” try to bring emotional depth to the story.

Visually the film accurately depicts the streets of Purvanchal, the temples and the restlessness of the city.

Drawbacks and comparison with “Roar”

Both “Bhagwat” and “Dahad” focus on missing girls and the uneasiness spreading in the society. But while “Dahaad” gradually shook the audience to the core, the impact of “Bhagwat” remains limited. The graph of the story is full of ups and downs, and at times even seems predictable. The twists are there, but their presentation was not as strong as expected.

Final verdict of the film, watch it or not?

“Bhagwat” is an honest attempt that tries to understand the human mentality along with the issues of society. The subject is not new, but the treatment is different. The film forces one to think, but does not engage that much. If you like suspense-dramas, this is worth a watch — just don’t get your expectations too high.
