The Pakistan Foreign Office today shared a picture of the meeting of Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mutki of Talivan.
The Chinese-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has been agreed to expand to Afghanistan in a meeting of foreign ministers of China, Pakistan and Afghanistan in Beijing on Wednesday. Pakistan’s Foreign Office (PFO) gave this information on social media.
The corridor, which will be built from Shinjiang, China to Gwadar Port in Balochistan, Pakistan, will go to Afghanistan. With this corridor, China’s planning is to create road connectivity to middle-East countries. The information about where CPEC will be expanded to Afghanistan from Pakistan has not come yet.
According to PFO, Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottki held a meeting in Beijing today.
In the meeting, the three ministers considered necessary cooperation to increase regional security and economic cooperation. Along with this, he discussed the steps to advance the diplomatic and promote infrastructure development.
What is CPEC
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is an ambitious plan of Chinese President Xi Jinping. It was started in 2013. In this, an economic corridor is being built at a cost of $ 60 billion (about 5 lakh crore rupees) from Shinjiang province of China to Gwadar Port of Pakistan.
Through this, China will reach the Arabian Sea. Under CPEC, China is working on roads, ports, railway and energy projects.
What is the benefit of China from CPEC?
- This corridor will make crude oil access to China easier. China arrives from 80% crude oil to be imported from Gulf of Malakka.
- Right now there is a road of about 16 thousand km, but this distance from CPEC will decrease by 5 thousand km.
- China wants to make inroads into the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean through the Economic Corridor.
- Due to the Navy whereabouts on the Gwadar Port, China will also be able to use the Gwadar Port for repairing and maintenance of its fleet. Gwadar will prove to be very beneficial for China’s Navy Mission.
India objected to CPEC
- CPEC, costing $ 50 billion, will connect Gwadar Port in Balochistan, Pakistan and Xinjiang of China.
- CPEC also passes through the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan occupied by Pakistan, which is claimed by India.
- India believes that China is following the policy of expansionism through CPEC and is trying to surround India.
