The troubles of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan are increasing. 14 new cases have been registered against Imran for violent protests in Islamabad. With this, the number of cases registered against Imran in Islamabad has increased to 76. Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICTP) has given this information by submitting a report in the High Court on December 5.
According to the report, 14 new cases have been registered against Imran after the demonstration at D-Chowk in Islamabad on November 24 last month. Earlier, there were 62 cases registered against him, which has now increased to 76. Imran had issued a message from jail asking his supporters and PTI party workers to protest across the country.
Imran’s demand was that the mandate given to his party in the elections should be recognized, the detained party members should be released and the 26th amendment related to the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court should be repealed.
Containers were placed on Pakistan’s Srinagar Highway to stop the protesters. However, the protesters crossed by climbing on the container.
Police forcibly chased away Imran supporters
On the demand of Imran Khan, his supporters and PTI workers had marched to Islamabad. The protesters had reached D-Chowk, the high security zone (red zone) of Islamabad on 24 November. The protesters had started protesting here. However, on the night of 26 November, the police forcibly removed the protestors from D-Chowk.
D Chowk is the most high profile area of Islamabad. Rashtrapati Bhavan, PM Office, Parliament House and Supreme Court are in this area.
7 people also died in these demonstrations. These included 4 protesters and 3 policemen. It was claimed in Pakistani media reports that Imran supporters had killed the policemen by ramming them.
The police had fired tear gas shells to stop the protesters. In response, the protesters threw stones at the police and army.
Charges framed against Imran Khan in attack on army headquarters
A Pakistani court on Thursday framed charges against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and several leaders and workers of his party in the attack on the army headquarters. After framing of charges, Imran has declared himself innocent. However, Imran has been declared guilty in this case last week.
Imran and 143 other persons were made accused at a police station in Rawalpindi on May 9, 2023 in the case of attack on the army headquarters.
Last year, after his arrest in a case, Imran supporters had vandalized many military offices. These included Jinnah House i.e. Corps Commander House of Lahore, Mianwali Air Base, ISI Building of Faisalabad and Army Headquarters of Rawalpindi.
During the hearing held on Thursday, charges were framed against 60 accused including Imran. The next hearing in this case will be on December 10.
