Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty has approached the Bombay High Court for the protection of his personality rights. He has said that many social media pages and websites are using his photos to promote their businesses. Apart from this, he also mentioned a case in which a deepfake photo of him and his granddaughter was created.
Let us tell you that the name of Sunil Shetty’s granddaughter is Ivara. Sunil Shetty’s daughter Athiya Shetty and son-in-law KL Rahul was born on 24 March 2025.
Talking about the work front, the actor was recently seen in the film ‘Kesari Veer’. Vivek Oberoi, Sooraj Pancholi and Akanksha Sharma also played important roles in this film directed by Prince Dhiman. This film was released on 23 May 2025.
Bombay High Court had secured the personality rights of Asha Bhosle. Earlier, the Bombay High Court had banned the use of singer Asha Bhosle’s name, voice and identity without permission. Now AI platforms, e-commerce and others cannot use them without permission.
According to Bar & Bench report, the court had said that copying the voice of celebrities using AI tools is a violation of their personality rights. These tools can alter and replicate their voice, which is an important part of their public and personal identity, without permission.
Asha Bhosle had approached the court when she noticed that her name and identity were being used wrongly in many places. The complaint included AI company Mayk, e-commerce sites Amazon and Flipkart, tech platform Google and an independent artist.

The complaint said that Mayk was creating and distributing an AI clone of his voice. Amazon and Flipkart were selling posters and merchandise with his photo without permission. Asha Bhosle’s team had said that such unauthorized use damages the reputation and goodwill she has earned over her 80-year long career. His career has also earned him the Padma Vibhushan, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and two Grammy nominations.
After reviewing the case, the court issued a restraining order against all the defendants. Now no one can use their name, picture or voice for business or personal gain.
Also, the court had ordered all platforms and sellers to remove all content and product listings. They will also have to inform Asha Bhosle about the people who violated them, so that she can take further legal action.
