Gurmeet Ram Rahim has got relief in the case of targeted murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati in Sirsa, Haryana in 2002. Punjab and Haryana High Court has given a big relief to Dera Sachcha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and acquitted him of the charges. The court heard this case on Saturday.
Let us tell you that in 2019, the CBI court had convicted Ram Rahim in the Ram Chander Chhatrapati murder case. Also, life imprisonment was given in this case. Apart from this, CBI had also convicted three more people – Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh, and Krishna Lal. But the court has acquitted Ram Rahim of the charges. However, due to other cases, Ram Rahim will have to remain in jail for now.

This decision was given by the division bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Vikram Aggarwal while hearing the appeals challenging the 2019 sentence. After which the court canceled the sentence of Ram Rahim and acquitted him of the charges. However, the court rejected the appeal of two other accused. The detailed decision is still awaited. In which it will be told why the sentence was overturned.
Who was journalist Ram Chander?
Journalist Ram Chander used to run a local newspaper in Sirsa. He was shot outside his home in October 2002 and later died of his injuries. This murder case was in the news a lot. Because the journalist had published reports related to the allegations against the Dera chief. The report also contained a letter in which sexual exploitation was alleged inside the Dera, after which the investigation related to Ram Rahim started.
After initial inquiry, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Who investigated and later filed charges against Ram Rahim and others. In January 2019, a special CBI court in Panchkula convicted Ram Rahim and co-accused of conspiring to murder the journalist and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
