Kerala government objections to the award to The Kerala Story
The film The Kerala Story has received the National Award for Best Direction. After the announcement, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan objected to this and said that the award to the film is to promote a special political ideology, which is an insult to our state. Vijayan says that this film spreads hatred in society by showing false story.

Leader V.D. Satishan also said that the propaganda to spread hatred through the award is being promoted. State Minister Saji Cherian, K.N. Balgopal, V. Sivonakutty and P.A. Mohammad Riyaz also opposed the award to the film.
The National Awards jury member Praveen Nair also made it clear in an interview to Onmanorama that he had opposed the award to give the film The Kerala Story as a propaganda film, but the rest of the jury passed it.

Malayali actress objected to Rani Mukherjee’s victory
Rani Mukherjee has received the first National Award for her career for Mrs. Chatterjee Verses Norway. While Malayali actress Urvashi has received the Best Supporting Actress Award for the film Oluzhku.
Actress Urvashi expressed displeasure over this after the winners were announced on 1 August. He said in an interview to Asia Net that she should have received the Best Actress Award instead of Rani.
The actress also said that Vijay Raghavan, who won the supporting actor award, should have received the Best Actor Award in place of Shah Rukh. The actress questioned the decision of the jury and said, on which parameters she was awarded. Urvashi said that these awards lack transparency.
