High security alert has been issued in Nagpur after receiving a threatening letter. In this letter it was claimed that radioactive material has been kept in RSS headquarters, BJP office and metro trains.
According to the police, this letter was found in the office of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal on April 27. After this the security agencies were immediately alerted. Investigations were conducted at all the mentioned locations with the help of NDRF and nuclear energy experts, but no radioactive material has been found so far.
The threat of radioactive material was found in these locations:
RSS headquarters in Nagpur.
Dr. Hedgewar Memorial Temple located in Nagpur.
Orange Line of Metro Nagpur.
Mention of dangerous radioactive substance in the letter
Police suspect that this letter may be fake, but considering the seriousness of the matter, investigation is going on. This letter has been written in English. The writer has described himself as an organization named DSS. Dangerous radioactive substances like cesium-137 were mentioned in the letter.
The letter has specifically named RSS headquarters, Smriti Mandir and BJP office located in Ganeshpeth. It was also claimed that this material has been kept under the seats of Orange and Aqua Line trains of the metro and also in the buses running in these areas.
It was also said that this radioactive substance had been taken from a cancer hospital and there could be a risk of radiation in the entire city.
Emergency protocol implemented
Police said that all emergency protocols were implemented as soon as the letter was received. ATS, NDRF and expert teams conducted a thorough investigation at all the places. An ATS official said that at first glance this case seems to be fake, but the investigation is being done with full seriousness.
Took responsibility for detonator and gelatin stick
The letter also mentions the detonator and gelatin stick found recently near Dosar Bhawan metro station. It took responsibility for the incident and described it as a “warning”.
In this matter, a case has been registered in Sadar police station on the complaint of ATS. There is already security around the RSS headquarters by CISF and Nagpur Police, which has now been further increased.
Another ATS officer said that no risk was being taken. Surveillance has been increased and efforts are being made to identify the sender of the letter and the organization named DSS.
