American broadcaster Tucker Carlson has claimed that President Donald Trump may declare war with Venezuela. Tucker Carlson said this in his online show ‘Judging Freedom’.

According to him, a US lawmaker told him that lawmakers were given a closed-door briefing before Trump’s address. In this briefing it was said that a situation of military conflict could arise between America and Venezuela and the President could make it public in a speech.

This claim has come at a time when tension between America and Venezuela is continuously increasing. US President Donald Trump said that Venezuela should return our oil and energy rights which were illegally taken away.

Trump’s blockade of Venezuelan oil tankers

Increasing pressure on Venezuela, Trump has ordered a complete blockade of the movement of banned oil tankers to and from Venezuela.

Trump wrote on his Truth social platform that Venezuela is surrounded by the largest naval siege in the history of South America. This siege will escalate unless Venezuela returns the oil, land and other assets stolen from the US.

Venezuela had taken away the rights of American companies

Trump claims that Venezuela had illegally taken away oil rights from American companies. In fact, in 1976 the Venezuelan government (at the time of President Carlos Andrés Pérez) nationalized the entire oil industry.

This meant that the foreign oil companies (mostly American, such as Exxon, Gulf Oil, Mobil, etc.) that had been extracting oil there for decades had all their operations and assets passed to Venezuela’s new state-owned company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).

This nationalization happened legally and compensation was also given to the companies, although some companies were not happy with it. At that time, American companies played a big role in developing the oil industry in Venezuela, so some people still call it an American property.

On December 10, America seized a very large Venezuelan crude oil tanker after a special operation.

Venezuela had seized the assets of American companies

In 2007, during the presidency of Hugo Chávez, Venezuela implemented a new policy in projects in the Orinoco Belt (large reserves of heavy oil). The government said that PDVSA will get majority stake in all projects.

Most foreign companies (such as Chevron, Total, etc.) accepted this condition and continued as minority shareholders, but American companies like ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips refused.

The result was that their properties were forcibly taken away and they were thrown out of the country. These companies consider it illegal and kept fighting the case in the International Arbitration Court.

Venezuela’s economy depends on selling oil

Venezuela earns most of its money by selling oil. With this money they buy food, medicines and essential items.

Although they have a lot of oil, their ability to extract oil has been greatly reduced due to wrong policies, US sanctions and corruption.

Earlier America was their biggest customer, but after relations deteriorated, America almost stopped buying. Now China buys about 80% of Venezuela’s oil. America and Cuba also take some oil.

America threatened Venezuela with secret operation

American officials say that operations against Venezuela may begin in the coming days.

The Trump administration can also overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. This information was given by news agency Reuters quoting American officials.

According to American officials, it may start with a secret operation. In recent weeks, the US military has deployed a large number of ships, aircraft and troops to the Caribbean area, increasing the possibility of conflict between the two countries.

Warships deployed near Venezuela

According to a US Defense Ministry official, three Aegis guided-missile destroyer warships named USS Gravely, USS Jason Dunham and USS Sampson are deployed off the coast of Venezuela.

All three warships specialize in defense against air, sea, and submarine attacks. They also include 4,000 soldiers, P-8A Poseidon aircraft and an attack submarine.
