Cuban Labor Minister Marta Elena Feto Cabrera resigned after her comments on Monday
Cuba Labor Minister Marta Elena Feto Cabrera had to resign for making a statement on beggars. Cabarera said in Parliament on Monday that there is no such thing as a beggar in Cuba, people only pretend to be poor.
When the minister said such things, people got angry. People felt that the government did not understand their pain and situation. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Kanel also criticized him, without naming him in Parliament.
He said that the government should be sensitive and connected to the public. Should not be blinded by reality. Soon after the President’s criticism, Cabarera resigned, which the party also accepted.

Minister called those who choose garbage as tax thieves Cabarera said in Parliament-
I have seen many people who look like beggars, but seeing their clothes and hands, they seem that they are pretending to be just beggars. He further said that those who clean the glass of cars on the streets live comfortably and spend most of their earnings on alcohol.
The minister also targeted the garbage finders and said that these people are trying to earn money easily.
Cuba is currently facing a serious economic crisis. There is a huge shortage of food, medicines and fuel. Now many elderly are seen begging on the roads, picking garbage or cleaning glass of trains.
Poverty in Cuba is continuously increasing. Many people are living by selling garbage.
Cuba’s economy falling continuously
Cuba is a country where the government is not usually criticized, and protests are not legal. But this time there was such a huge response to the minister’s words that the writers, workers and common people also opposed it openly and demanded their resignation.
Now the situation has become so bad that the pension of a retired person is about 2,000 cubic pesos, which is equal to just Rs 430 in the black market. With this, they cannot even buy a box of eggs.
Those whose relatives are abroad, they are able to live somehow. The rest of the people have to be hungry. The situation is so bad that in the last five years, the country’s economy has declined by 11%.
Constant power cuts in Cuba and lack of energy supply have affected production, increasing prices.
US sanctions also affected Cuba
The Cuba government blames this economic plight for the old sanctions of America. The US has imposed a trade ban on Cuba since the Fidel Castro revolution in 1960. Cuba says that they have a huge difficulty in buying financial transactions, fuels and essential goods due to these restrictions.
US President Donald Trump tightened these sanctions, while his first President Barack Obama tried to improve the relationship with Cuba during his tenure. Obama had become the first US President in Cuba in 90 years and also took several steps to reduce tension from Cuba.
