High-voltage drama was witnessed as ED officials came out of the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister in Thiruvananthapuram. After the ED raid at Pinarayi Vijayan’s house in Kannur was over, the officials were trying to come out, but party workers stopped them at the gate.
The workers started raising slogans and asking questions to the ED officials and a tense atmosphere was created outside the gate. To handle the situation, senior party leaders and local officials were busy pacifying the supporters. The situation like chaos and jostling continued for a long time, after which an attempt was made to take out the officers.
Political conflict over raid
The political turmoil has intensified regarding the action of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the residence of former Chief Minister of Kerala and current Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan. CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby has made a scathing attack on the Central Government and ED on this matter. He said that this entire action is motivated by political motives and is part of the strategy to target opposition leaders.
MA Baby said, ‘We know very well that in different parts of the country, including Delhi, arrests have been made against big political leaders, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers on fabricated charges. In the cases of Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia also we saw that the trial court gave them relief. Therefore, this is an extension of the political strategy of BJP-RSS.
Attempt to suppress the voice of the opposition
He alleged that the Enforcement Directorate is no longer functioning as an independent investigative agency, but has become a part of the “political machinery of the RSS-BJP government”. Baby said that central agencies are being used to suppress the voice of the opposition and intimidate political opponents.
There is an atmosphere of tension in Kerala politics after the ED action. At the same time, CPI(M) workers have also started protesting, calling it a case of misuse of democratic institutions. Opposition parties have also accused the central government of political use of investigating agencies.
Raid on 10 locations
Let us tell you that on Wednesday, ED had reached 10 places in Kerala to raid. This also includes the locations of former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Kerala Assembly Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter Veena Vijayan. It was told that this action is related to the alleged money laundering case, in which the name of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter and her company Exalogic Solutions Private Limited had come to the fore.
The case pertains to alleged illegal payments and financial irregularities related to Kochi Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL), based in Kochi. The main basis of this raid is the charge sheet filed by SFIO (Serious Fraud Investigation Office) in April 2025. SFIO has made serious allegations against Veena Vijayan’s IT company Exalogic Solutions Private Limited (ESPL).
It is alleged that the company received ‘illegal payments’ from Kochi-based Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) for three years from 2018-19 without providing any services. In 2017, a contract was signed between Exalogic and CMRL for software and marketing services, but investigation found that the stipulated services were not provided.
The case is related to suspicious transactions that took place in 2017
It is being told that the roots of this entire controversy lie in the year 2017, when Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter Veena’s company Exalogic had entered into a formal contract with Kochi Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) to provide software and marketing services. It is alleged that under the guise of this agreement, suspicious transactions worth crores of rupees were done without doing any work.
This alleged financial irregularities were first revealed in the year 2019, when the Income Tax (IT) Department conducted a major raid on the premises of CMRL. The Income Tax Department had submitted a detailed investigation report after this search operation, in which suspicious payments made to the company of the former Chief Minister’s daughter were officially mentioned for the first time.
As the controversy continued to escalate, the Central Government in January 2024 had ordered the SFIO to investigate these serious allegations of financial irregularities involving Exalogic Solutions, CMRL and Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC). It is noteworthy that the government organization KSIDC has a total of 13.4 percent stake in the private company CMRL related to this case.
Based on the investigation of SFIO and the report of the Income Tax Department, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) finally registered a new case of money laundering in this entire financial scam in March 2024. Taking forward its investigation in this case, ED has now conducted a major raid on the residences of the Chief Minister and his daughter, due to which the political excitement in Kerala has reached its peak.
