The National Commission for Women has asked the Kerala Police to submit a report within 3 days, demanding strict action.

So far, 27 people have been arrested in a case related to sexual exploitation of a Dalit girl in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. These also include 4 minors.

On Sunday, 14 people were sent to judicial custody for 14 days. The girl’s fiance is also included in these.

According to the police, 10 FIRs have been registered in 2 police stations. 7 cases were registered in Pathanmitta police station. Police arrested 17 people and 4 minors. Elavumthitta police station arrested 6 people.

Police said that SIT has been formed under the DySP of the district. It comprises 25 police officers from various ranks and police stations.

The case was detected due to change in the girl’s behavior

The matter came to light when an educational institute noticed a change in the girl’s behaviour. Then this was informed to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The girl told the counselor that 62 people raped her in the last 5 years.

The girl alleges that she was raped for the first time at the age of 13. When his friend exploited for the first time. Now she is 18 years old. Even his parents did not know about this.

A case has been registered under POCSO against 40 of the accused named by the girl. These include coaches, fellow athletes, classmates and some boys living around the house.

The National Commission for Women has demanded a detailed report within 3 days and the arrest of all the accused. Since the victim was a minor, sections of POCSO Act and SC-ST Act will also be added against the accused.

When parents go to work, sexual abuse occurs at home as well. The girl told during counseling that she was first sexually abused at the age of 13 by her then boyfriend, who later handed her over to his friends. These people made his videos and made them viral.

On the basis of these they used to blackmail him. Many times she was also sexually abused at home when her parents went to work. The girl is an athlete, when she went to participate in a training camp, she was sexually exploited by her coach and fellow athletes.

Child Welfare Committee said – half confession, accused may increase

The chairman of the committee told that the girl’s father is a painter and mother is a MNREGA labourer. They are very less educated. They never knew that their daughter was being sexually abused. There are suspicions that other men are involved as his confession is still only half-way through. Some of the accused are below 18 years of age and are his classmates. Among the remaining accused, majority are above 35 years of age.

Police said- the girl had saved the number of the accused in her father’s phone. On Sunday, police had said that the girl’s detailed statement would be recorded soon. The arrested people are being interrogated. The girl does not have her own mobile phone. She uses her father’s phone. He had saved the numbers of the accused in his father’s phone. On the basis of information received from the victim’s diary, 40 people have been identified.
