According to the report, killer whales attacked the yacht for about one and a half hours. After this, water started filling in it.
A yacht going from Portugal to Greece has been sunk by 5 killer whales. According to the New York Post, this yacht worth Rs 1 crore was surrounded by killer whales orcas in the Mediterranean Sea. The incident took place on 24th July, information about which came to light on Saturday.
According to the report, 59-year-old Robert Powell had gone on a 10-day trip with his friends to celebrate his birthday. 22 hours after starting the journey, a group of whales attacked the 39 feet long yacht. They surrounded the yacht from all sides. After this, they started attacking the yacht.

The yacht sank 130 feet in the Mediterranean Sea after being attacked by orcas.
The yacht was 2 miles away from Spain in the Mediterranean Sea
After continuous attacks for about one and a half hours, the lower part of the yacht could not withstand the pressure and broke into two parts. This caused water to fill in the living area of the yacht. Powell said that at that time he was just 2 miles from the coast of Spain. The crew of the yacht immediately sent an alert for help.
About 2 hours after the attack began, a Spanish vessel arrived to help. They rescued the crew members. A few minutes later, the yacht sank 130 feet deep in the Mediterranean Sea.
Killer whales did not run away even from the explosion of firecrackers
Powell said that looking at the orcas, it did not seem that they had come there to play. They knew what they were doing. The orcas were targeting the weakest parts of the yacht. When they hit the yacht for the first time, it felt as if a big stone had hit us. After this, they intensified the attack. Killer whales were attacking like wolves.
Speaking to the media, Powell said that he had tried everything possible to scare the whales away. He fired firecrackers in the water so that the whales would run away due to the explosion. After this, he turned off the engine of the yacht. Despite this, the killer whales continued to attack.

Earlier in May, a group of killer whales had sunk a 50 feet long yacht near Morocco. Apart from this, orcas had also attacked a sailing race. During the race, a boat was going from Netherlands to Italy. After facing the whales for 15 minutes, its crew finally gave up and asked for help. After this, they were rescued.
Orcas are the largest species of dolphin. They are black and white in color and usually eat fish, penguins, seals and other marine creatures. Orcas mostly attack in groups. These groups may contain up to 40 orcas.
