According to the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI), a total of 314 works are going on in Kangana’s constituency. Even after two years, only 16 works have been completed. Kangana’s work completion rate is the lowest among the four MPs at 5.1%. Kangana has so far received ₹14.7 crore from MP fund. Out of this, Kangana has been able to spend only ₹ 4.1 crore till August 11. Kangana’s fund utilization rate is 27.6%, while the national average is 32.9%. Anurag Thakur is also no better than Kangana. The ‘report card’ of Hamirpur MP and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur is also no better than Kangana. Out of ₹15 crore, Anurag has been able to spend only ₹1.7 crore in two years, while ₹13.2 crore remains unspent. Anurag has the highest unspent budget among the four MPs. Shimla MP Suresh Kashyap and Kangra MP Rajeev Bhardwaj are definitely ahead in fund utilization, but both are behind the national average. Report card of all four MPs including Kangana… How much money do MPs get in MPLADS? Every MP gets MPLADS fund of ₹5 crore annually. This money does not come directly into the MP’s account. MPs recommend development works in their area, while the funds are released to the district authority and the concerned government agency gets the work done. Why the lag in spending funds? Of course, MPLADS money is not spent by the MPs themselves. Nevertheless, it is the responsibility of the MPs to ensure that the development work in their area is completed on time. They can identify important tasks, prioritize them, and monitor their progress. Especially when a large number of works are sanctioned or recommended, regular follow up from the MP’s office with the district administration and concerned agencies becomes important.
