Shahid Kapoor’s film ‘O Romeo’ is stuck in legal trouble before its release. Sanobar Sheikh, daughter of gangster Hussain Ustara, has filed a lawsuit against the filmmakers to compensate for the loss. Advocate DV Saroj had already issued notice to the film’s director and writer Vishal Bhardwaj, Rohan Narula (screenwriter), film producer Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and the Central Board of Film Certification. This notice was given by Ustara’s daughter Sanobar Shaikh. Now a case has been filed in Mumbai court for damages of Rs 1 crore.
Ruckus over Shahid’s film
It was told in the notice that the upcoming film ‘O Romeo’ is being said to be directly and indirectly based on true events. This movie is very similar to the life of Hussain Ustara. This reportedly includes his controversial past. The notice noted – “You neither took any consent, nor license, nor assignment, nor any permission from my client. Only my client has the legal right to manage, protect, and control his late father’s legacy and story. To dramatize, exaggerate or fictionalize alleged criminal behavior without consent is damaging to the dignity, respect and social standing of the deceased, including that of their family and my client.
In the notice, a compensation of Rs 1 crore has been demanded for commercial exploitation without permission, insult to honour, dignity and mental agony. Also, a demand was made to the filmmakers to immediately stop all production, promotion, release or screening (including digital) regarding this. However, the filmmakers say that a disclaimer has been given at the end of the film that any resemblance to the name, character or history of any person (living or dead) is completely coincidental and unintentional. The makers claim that it is common to use such names to depict mafia/gangsters in media or real life.

In this, Trupti Dimri, Avinash Tiwari, Farida Jalal, Vikrant Massey, Nana Patekar, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani will also be seen in important roles. The film has been directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The pair of Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj have previously worked in ‘Kaminey’ (2009), ‘Haider’ (2014) and ‘Rangoon’ (2017).
