MP News: The incident of the disappearance of newly married couple Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi, who went to Meghalaya, Indore, has taken a terrible turn. The Meghalaya police confirmed that the king was brutally murdered and the body was recovered from a deep moat near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji) in East Khasi Hills district on 2 June. The search for Sonam is still going on and the family has demanded an inquiry from the Central Bureau of Investigation in this case. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police has described it as a clear case of murder.
On Tuesday, Eastern Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Siem told the media, “We have recovered the victim’s mobile phone and weapon, a ‘Dao’ (traditional knife), recovered. It was a new dao and was used only for this crime. There is no doubt that it was a murder.”
The body was found near the same area from where weapons and phones were recovered, indicating that the crime took place in the surrounding area. This incident has created a sensation in the entire area.
Raja and Sonam were married on 11 May in Indore. He went to Meghalaya for a honeymoon on 20 May.
According to the police, the couple reached Mavalkhiyat village on a rented scooter on 22 May and from there, 3000 stairs went down to see the famous ‘Living Root Bridge’ in Nongriyat village.
They stayed in a homestay overnight and left from there on the morning of 23 May. A few hours later, he went missing. On May 24, his scooter was found in unclaimed condition near a cafe on Shillong-Sohra road, after which the police started a search with the help of local villagers.
11 days later, on Monday, the body of the king was found in a 100 feet deep moat near the waterfong waterfong with the help of a drone on Monday. Vivek Siem said that the body was identified by the king’s right hand ‘Raja’ tattoo and waterproof smartwatch on the wrist. A woman’s white shirt, pentra 40 drug bandage, a broken mobile phone LCD screen and smartwatch were recovered from the scene. The police registered a case of murder and evidence and formed the SIT, which is headed by SP (City) Herbert Kharakongor.
Raja’s brother Sachin Raghuvanshi told reporters in Indore, “The body was so rotten that the face was difficult to recognize. The king’s gold rings, chains, and wallets are missing, causing suspicion of murder. I demand the government that the CBI should investigate it so that the truth comes out. I have not lost my brother, but the government does not want to lose Sonam. Sachin demanded a search with the help of the army and demanded strict inquiries, expressing doubts on the local hotel staff, guides and scooter rental.
Teams of Meghalaya Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and West Jantia Hills District Adventure Mounting Club are engaged to search for Sonam. On Tuesday, a 17 -member NDRF team joined Sohra with drones, climbers, and special police forces. However, 500 mm of rain, landslides and floods in Sohra on 29-31 May made the search difficult, due to which the campaign had to be temporarily stopped on 30 May. During this, there were reports of six people killed and more than 10 people injured in East Khasi and Jantia Hills.
The body of the king has been sent to the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Health and Medical Institute (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong for post -mortem. It will be clear from the post -mortem report whether the king was killed before throwing it into the ditch or later. Indore MP Shankar Lalwani and Rajya Sabha MP Sumer Singh Solanki discussed the rescue operations with DGP Eye Nongrang and Chief Secretary DP Wahlang of Meghalaya.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Konrad K.K. Sangma said, “We consider tourists like our family. I am personally monitoring the search and rescue operations.” Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav mourned the death of the king and assured all possible help to search for Sonam.
This incident is questioning the safety of tourists in Meghalaya. In April this year, Hungary tourist Puskas Zolt also went missing near the Living Route Bridge and his body was found 12 days later. The police had described his death as an accident. In the case of Raja and Sonam, the family and the local people are demanding a thorough investigation.
