On the occasion of completion of 250 years of America’s independence, there is a preparation to release a special gold coin (commemorative gold coin), on which the picture of current President Donald Trump will be printed. In this proposed 24 carat gold coin, Trump is depicted bent over the ‘Resolute Desk’ with clenched fists.
America (United States) declared independence on July 4, 1776. On this day, the American Declaration of Independence was adopted, in which 13 American colonies declared independence from Great Britain. For this reason, every year July 4 is celebrated as Independence Day in America with fireworks, parades and celebrations.
This is not the first time in America that the picture of a sitting President is being printed on a commemorative gold coin. Earlier, in 1926, Calvin Coolidge was seen with George Washington in the commemorative coin issued on the completion of 150 years of America’s independence. However, US law generally does not allow the image of a living president to be printed on currency.

Coin design approved
The American ‘Commission of Fine Arts’ has approved the design of this coin on March 19. However, formal approval is yet to be given regarding the size of the coin and its release with Trump’s photo. US Treasury official Brandon Beach said that this coin is being prepared to reflect the country’s democratic spirit and 250 years of heritage, and there can be no better symbol for this than Trump.
Democrats are criticizing the decision
However, controversy has also arisen regarding this proposal. Democratic Party leaders have called it against democratic values. Democrat Senator Jeff Merkley said that ‘the faces on coins are of dictators and kings, not of democratic leaders.’ The US Treasury says that this coin will not be a common currency, but will be issued as a commemorative (collectible), hence it is outside the scope of the existing law.
Plan to issue more coins
Meanwhile, there are plans to release many special coins and medals for America’s 250th anniversary. The US Mint has announced that in 2026, a special designed coin will be issued for one year, which will be inscribed ‘1776–2026’ and will also feature the ‘Liberty Bell’, the symbol of American independence. Critics say that this step is part of Trump’s effort through which he wants to permanently register his image in American history and symbols.
