The film ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ was not only a multi-starrer film, but also a journey of memories and relationships for the artists. While talking to Dainik Bhaskar, Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty shared stories related to the film. Akshay told that working with a big star cast was like a picnic, where shooting was also fun. Sunil Shetty said that making a film with so many actors was not easy, but the team made it special. Both of them agreed that they will miss each other after the film is over. Question: What was the biggest reason for joining the film ‘Welcome to the Jungle’? Is it franchise, starcast or something else? Answer/Akshay Kumar: The biggest reason was that the story of the film was written by Neeraj Vora. We have a long standing relationship with him and have worked on many of his scripts. I have done about eight-nine films with him and Anna (Sunil Shetty) has also done many films. The second reason was that we all liked the story. It was Firoz Nadiadwala’s film and I was working with him after about 11–12 years. Apart from this, it is rare to see so many actors working together in a film these days. So we were all excited. Question: How was the relationship and experience of working together for so many years? Answer/Sunil Shetty: I have made a comeback like this after almost 16 years and our track record has been good earlier also. We tried to make a good entertaining film and supported the producer-director. The work is not easy when there are 30-35 artistes on a set. Sometimes the hardest thing was to stop laughing, especially when Arshad started having fun. Question: How was the atmosphere on the set? Answer/Akshay Kumar: The atmosphere on the set was fun. It was a huge set and there was also a VIP tent inside. There were buggies to go to and from the van. Many times an action scene was going on outside and we were having fun inside. The fun that was there on the set will be visible in the film. Question: Who was the most mischievous on the set? Answer/Akshay Kumar (laughing): Anna seems calm on the outside, but inside he keeps thinking about whom to joke with. If you leave slippers outside, you may not get them back. Will you ever think about which string to pull or which mischief to do? The planning is done by them and they get the work done by us. Question: How much did Akshay sir’s on-the-spot comedy and improvisation surprise others on the set? Answer/Sunil Shetty: Working with Akshay, you never know what the next moment is going to be. He does anything suddenly – sometimes he will change the dialogue, sometimes he will add a new joke, sometimes he will do mischief. If you want to keep everything fine on the set, then maintain a distance of 10-15 feet from Akshay. Don’t keep your phone, watch or other items close to you, as they can do something at any time. But this is his specialty. His same energy and sudden comic timing makes the film fun. Question: How does the energy and enthusiasm remain even after so many years? Answer/Sunil Shetty: We try to work for the audience. Every artist has his own different energy. When Akshay does a scene, he never sits idle, keeps doing something new. Arshad Warsi also adds new things from his side. Many times we would forget our lines. Only when everyone’s energy comes together, good work is done. Question: What will you remember most after the film is over? Answer/Akshay Kumar: I will remember working with everyone the most. Our plan is that after the completion of the film, the entire star cast will sit together and watch the film. Whether the film will be a hit or a flop is a later matter. But the relationship formed after working together for two and a half years will be the most special. May or may not get a chance to work with such a big group again in the future. Question: What will you miss most personally? Answer/Akshay Kumar: Spending time with such fun people. Everyone had their own different quality. I never felt like I was going to work. It felt like spending time with friends. Ahmed also has a good nature. I will definitely miss this whole experience.
