Zubeen Garg Funeral Updates: Singer Zubeen Garg, who died in a tragic scuba diving accident in Singapore on Friday, will be laid to rest in Assam on Tuesday. Garg’s last rites are being performed at Kamarkuchi village in Sonapur, a small town located on the outskirts of Guwahati city. Assam’s heartthrob’s untimely demise has left a void in the hearts of millions of fans across the region and the country.

The 52-year-old singer’s mortal remains were brought from Sarusajai Stadium Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex (Sarusajai Stadium) in Guwahati to the crematorium so people, including his family and fans, can pay their last respect to him. A gun salute was given to Garg at the crematorium.

Earlier today, his second post-mortem was completed at Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) in the presence of AIIMS doctors.

Assam CM Arrives At Crematorium

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also arrived at the crematorium to attend Garg’s funeral. His final rites will be held with full state honours, including a gun salute, with Assam Police serving as pallbearers.

His mortal remains were placed in a glass casket draped with a traditional Assamese gamosa. Fans queued for hours, some travelling from far corners of Assam, to catch a last glimpse of the star who defined a generation of music in the state.

The atmosphere turned deeply emotional as Garg’s family members, close relatives, and even his four pet dogs stayed by his side at the stadium.

Prominent figures, including Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, singer Papon, and a representative of the King of Bhutan, also arrived to pay tribute.

CM Sue Biswa Sarma Pays Tribute

Earlier in the day, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma paid a heartfelt tribute to the late popular singer Zubeen Garg, stating, “There will never be another Zubeen.”

“A few hours left before #BelovedZubeen begins his final journey. A short while ago, I joined his well wishers at Sarusajai Stadium to pay my tributes. The last 2 days symbolised the love he commands over people. There will never be another Zubeen (sic),” CM Sarma tweeted.

In a heartfelt tribute, CM Sarma shared an image of belongings of Zubeen Garg, saying it encapsulates the essence of his life—a life marked by deep-rooted connection with every community in Assam.

“This one picture defines the life and times of Zubeen- one where he earned the affection and love of every community in Assam and lived by this philosophy till the very end,” he tweeted.

Earlier on Monday, the CM inspected the cremation site to take stock of preparations before his family and fans bid adieu to the Assamese singer.

Huge Crowd Gathers At Crematorium

Further, a huge crowd gathered at the crematorium in Kamarkuchi NC village to attend the last rites of the beloved singer. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also paid his respects to Assamese Singer at the crematorium in Kamarkuchi NC village.

Garg was brought home to a wave of mourning that has engulfed the state.
