Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that US President Donald Trump has made a final decision to allow Ukraine to produce Patriot missiles under US licences, while Washington has proposed the United Arab Emirates as the venue for potential trilateral talks involving Ukraine, Russia and the US.

US, Ukraine Teams To Return With Results In 10 Days

Zelenskyy said he first held a meeting with Trump to discuss general matters, following which the two countries’ negotiating teams held a separate, lengthy meeting.

Under the agreed plan, Ukraine will brief its European partners on the details of the discussions, while the US will engage with Russia. The negotiating teams are expected to return to the issue in around 10 days with their positions and the results of those consultations.

UAE Proposed For Trilateral Ukraine-US-Russia Talks

Zelenskyy also said Washington had proposed preparing for a trilateral Ukraine-US-Russia meeting at the technical level.

The United States has suggested the UAE as the venue for the proposed meeting, while Kyiv is waiting for Washington to put forward a date.

The proposed talks would bring officials from Ukraine, the US and Russia together as diplomatic efforts continue over the war and possible pathways towards negotiations.

Trump Gives Final Approval For Patriot Missile Licences

Zelenskyy said there were concrete agreements regarding licences for Patriot missile production in Ukraine.

He added that Trump had stressed during their meeting that he had made his final decision: Ukraine would receive licences to produce Patriot missiles.

The move would allow Kyiv to expand its domestic capabilities for producing the advanced air-defence systems as it continues to seek greater protection against Russian missile and drone attacks.

The latest discussions come as Washington and Kyiv continue efforts on both the diplomatic and military fronts, with further consultations with Russia and European partners expected before the negotiating teams meet again in about 10 days.
