Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to launch a major statewide campaign aimed at expanding social security coverage for sugarcane farmers and their families.

The initiative will run as a Social Security Awareness and Enrollment Mega Campaign from July 6 to 11 across all Cooperative Sugarcane Development Societies in the state.

Under the programme, millions of sugarcane farming families will be linked with key Government of India welfare schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY).

Strengthening Farmer Welfare

The Yogi government said the expansion of social security schemes will provide crucial financial support to farmers in cases of accidents, untimely death and old age. Officials said this will improve income security and risk protection for farming households while also supporting the rural economy.

The state government’s objective is to ensure that the maximum number of eligible sugarcane farmer families are enrolled under these schemes. It aims to make every farmer household more secure, self-reliant and financially protected. The campaign also aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Uttar Pradesh.

Cooperative Sugarcane Development Societies will play a central role in implementing the drive. These societies will help spread awareness, guide farmers, verify eligibility and ensure on-the-spot enrolment.

The government said this will further strengthen the role of these institutions beyond their traditional farming services.

Village-Level Outreach

During the campaign, special enrolment and assistance counters will be set up at every cooperative society with support from banks, IFFCO, sugar mills and other partner organisations. Farmers will receive information on schemes, document verification, banking support and instant registration services at a single location.

Women self-help groups will also be actively involved to ensure wider participation of rural women in insurance and pension schemes. Officials said this will strengthen women’s role in financial decision-making and improve household security.

Sugarcane supervisors, society secretaries and departmental officials will carry out village-level outreach to spread awareness about welfare schemes. Gram Sabha meetings and farmer awareness sessions will also be organised across villages to ensure maximum enrolment of eligible families.
