Woman’s hair pulled, brother punched after clash with husband at UP court complex

A domestic dispute between a couple turned violent near a court complex in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar on Friday, with the husband allegedly assaulting his wife and her family members along with his relatives. Videos purportedly showing the altercation have gone viral on social media, prompting police to investigate the incident.

The couple had arrived at the court for a hearing in an ongoing case when an argument reportedly escalated into a physical altercation. According to the wife’s allegations, her husband, Amit Kumar Tomar, abused her and her family before the confrontation turned violent. She also alleged that her brother was assaulted when he intervened.

The incident was recorded on a mobile phone by a bystander and later circulated on social media. Following a complaint, local police took cognisance of the videos and began investigating the matter.

Siya Rathi married Amit Kumar Tomar on May 3, 2026.

Siya alleged that after the marriage, she discovered that her husband was involved in relationships with other women. She claimed that when she confronted him about the alleged relationships, he assaulted her at his family home. Following the incident, she informed her family, and her brother brought her back to her parental home.

She further alleged that her husband subsequently abused her over the phone, sent her offensive messages and repeatedly threatened her. The couple has since been involved in a legal dispute, and both sides arrived at the court complex on Friday for a hearing.

Recounting Friday’s incident, Siya said she had arrived at the court with her father and brother when she saw her husband standing nearby. She alleged that he had repeatedly threatened to beat her and that she confronted him over the threats.

“I came here for the court hearing with my father and brother. My husband was standing there, and he would threaten to beat me regularly. I went up to him and said, ‘Go ahead and hit me.’ That was all I said. He was accompanied by two or three men, including his cousin Bhura. They started abusing me and speaking rudely to me,” she said.

Siya alleged that when her brother intervened, the men assaulted him. She claimed that they also attacked her when she tried to stop the assault. She further alleged that her husband punched her brother on the ear during the confrontation.

The woman also accused her husband of having relationships with his aunt, Sonam, and a woman named Meenu Gupta in Noida. She claimed that she discovered the alleged relationships after the marriage and that confronting him about them led to the earlier assault.

“I told my family about what had happened, but they would not even let me speak to them over the phone. My brother eventually brought me back to my parental home after my husband assaulted me. I have not returned since then,” she said.

Siya said she wanted the police to take action against her husband over the alleged assault, threats and harassment.

Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth K Mishra said police had received a video showing a man and a woman fighting near the court complex. He confirmed that the incident was being investigated.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident and the allegations made by the woman.
